Parent Involvement Policy/Plan 2015-2016
Idyllwilde Elementary is a Title I school and highly values parent involvement. In order
to comply with No Child Left Behind, Idyllwilde provides many opportunities for parents
to become involved with their child’s education. Idyllwilde offers parent information and
opportunities for school involvement in a number of different ways:

School Parental Involvement Policy/Plan:
The School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parent Advisory Team (PAT) meet during the year to
help review and provide input for Idyllwilde’s Parent Involvement Plan and School/Home
Compact for the next school year.
Parent Involvement Plan is available on the school’s website, in the Parent Resource Display area,
the Title I Binder, located in the front office, and is available at the Title I Annual Meeting.
School information and parent resources including “Parents Right to Know”, Parent Involvement
Plan, and School/Home Compact, & AVID are disseminated on the school website, in Parent
Resource Display, the Title I Binder, in the front office, and is provided at Title I Annual Meeting
Annual Title I Meeting, generally held in October, provides parents with information about Title I
services and programs, Parent Engagement activities, Highly Qualified - “Parents Right to Know”.
2. Policy/Plan Involvement:
 The School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parent Advisory Team (PAT) meet during the year to
help review and provide input for Idyllwilde’s Parent Involvement Plan and School/Home
Compact for the next school year.
 Parent input for Parent Involvement Plan is gathered each year by distributing the policy/plan
(PIP) along with an online survey or input form to parents in SAC, PTA, and PAT. Survey/input
form is also available in the Parent Resource Display. Parents who request email communication
are invited to participate via email and link to online survey. This information is compiled and
provided to SAC to discuss and be used to improve/modify the following year’s policy/plan.
 An evaluation form for each Parent Involvement activity is completed and information is compiled
to make improvements for future parent involvement activities/trainings.
3. Shared Responsibilities for High Student Academic Achievement: School-Parent Partnership:
 School/Home Compact, which is signed by the Principal, Assistant Principal, parent(s), student,
and teacher, is distributed to all students/parents in the back-to-school packet.
 Planners are provided for every student to allow daily communication between parent and teacher.
 Teacher/Parent conferences are highly encouraged for all students to ensure parents understand
their child’s progress. Transportation for parents is provided as needed.
 Information about AVID program is included in Title I Annual meeting, curriculum night,
website, and newsletter to involve parents in the goals of program.
 Web-based parent access to Skyward to monitor student’s progress is provided to all parents.
 Provide access and training for parents and students to utilize IREADY computer program online
from home to provide tutoring and enrichment in reading and math skills.
 “Parent Guide to Success” calendar and information is sent to every student by the District Office.
 Positive Behavior Support, a school-wide program which teaches SOAR behavioral expectations
and interventions involves parents as part of a team approach for high behavioral expectations.
 Parent Newsletters are sent monthly to inform parents of important dates, school/parent activities,
and parent resources.
4. Building Capacity for Involvement:

“Meet the Teacher” is held before school begins for students/parents to meet their child’s teacher.
 Curriculum nights for parents are held in August for parents to learn about the curriculum,
expectations for academic and behavioral progress, assessment, FSA requirements, etc.
























Breakfast and Books and Paperbacks and Picnic are parent activities that occur 2 times during the
year. Parents join their child for either Breakfast or lunch and read together.
Student-led Parent Conferences night is held each year to increase parent/student/teacher
communication and understanding of classroom curriculum, academic goals and progress.
Book Fairs are held twice each year with a Family Night for parents to join in and choose a book
with their child. Dinner is provided to encourage parent attendance.
ESOL Parent Nights are held 2-3 times per year. Parents with limited English skills learn
strategies to work with their children on literacy skills. Translators are provided.
Gross Science Family Night will be held in the spring to foster student/parent interest in science.
PTA meets monthly and is open to all interested parents. PTA sponsors Family Nights throughout
the year to encourage family engagement. Family skate nights are held 1-2 times a year.
Reading, Math and Science Family Nights are offered at the school to educate parents about ways
they can help their child at home. Dinner and childcare provided.
Parent Newsletters are sent monthly to inform parents of important dates, school/parent activities,
and parent resources.
School Advisory Committee (SAC) meets monthly to provide support to the principal and give
input on the School Improvement Plan and parent involvement.
Parents attend District Title I Parent Advisory Team (PAT) meetings each month to learn about
Title I and offer input into the District and school Title I programs.
The Dividends Program is a volunteer program for family and community members. Dividends
assist in classrooms and with activities occurring at the school.
Family Nights at Business Partners (Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, PDQ, etc.) occur monthly during the
school year.
Parents are provided transportation to and from school, if needed, for parent/teacher conferences,
ESE meetings or any meeting concerning their child’s education.
Family Liaison makes home visits for parent signatures for parent conference forms, ESE forms,
etc. when phone calls and notes home have not been effective.
Family Liaison distributes information regarding District trainings: Power Writing, Math
Adventures, Help with Homework, Building Better Readers, Effective Parent/Teacher
Conferences, Homework Help, Job Training, Financial Fitness, First Time Homebuyers, etc. are
provided in English and Spanish after work hours or on Saturdays.
Information is disseminated to families regarding community assistance for Christmas and
Thanksgiving and community resource fairs.
Spring Fling/Gross Science is held each spring with fun activities for students and families.
Festival of the Arts family event showcases student art work and musical performances each May.
Community Resource information (agencies for food, clothing, housing, parent training) is
provided to families.
Facilitate services between families and Families in Transition (FIT program).
Parents are invited to have lunch with their student(s) and chaperone field trips.
A clothing and uniform “pantry” is available to families who may need them.
The Kindness Kottage food pantry, stocked by a local church, provides food sent via backpacks
with students/families who request it.
The business community donates backpacks and supplies to students who need them.
5. Accessibility
 ESOL Parent Nights are held 2-3 times per year. Parents who may have limited English skills
learn strategies to work with their children on literacy/reading skills.
 Written communication sent home to parents is often provided in Spanish to parents of ELL
students.
 Teachers/staff have access to translation services through Optimal Phone Services and/or bilingual staff for ELL parent conferences.
 Translators are provided for parent conferences, Student Study meetings and parent workshop for
ELL parents or hearing impaired parents.
