Obituary: Obituary for Cecil St Clair King III
Dateline: Franklin, Vermont
Cecil St. Clair King III, 68, of Franklin, Vermont, went to his reward in
heaven on May 16, 2015, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston,
after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil St. Clair King, Jr. and
Emily Westall King, and his brother Forrest Coile, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; son Robert St. Clair Carroll, of
Quantico, Virginia; granddaughter Emily; brother, William H. H. King,
of New Market, Virginia; sister Carolyn Quadrio of St. Paul’s, Australia;
niece Caroline Coile of California; nephew Forrest Coile of Tallahassee,
Florida; uncle Jimmy King of Louisiana; cousin Doris Booth of California and her daughter
Marjorie Bernoudy and husband Scott and family of Lincoln, Vermont; cousin Billie Booth of
California; and cousin Angel Stork of California.
Cecil was born July 23, 1946, at Jacksonville Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida; his Father
having been a career Naval Officer and a hero of the war in the Pacific (1942 – 1945). He lived
in Hawaii and then Ashville North Carolina while his father was at sea. After his father retired,
the family settled in Arlington, Virginia. Growing up in the Episcopal Church, he was an acolyte
and sang in the choir.
Cecil was a 1972 graduate of the University Of Virginia School Of Architecture. Following his
college years, he joined the U. S. Navy, where he served as a Line Officer. After leaving the
Navy, he practiced architecture in Tallahassee, Florida and with several firms in the Washington,
DC area. In 1988, he was received into the Catholic Church by Father Benedict Wolf at
Candlemas at St. Stephen’s Church in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania.
He devoted his life to the pro-life rescue movement along the eastern seaboard. This led him to
Vermont and eventually to Franklin, where he established King’s Taste, a market gardening
business. He was a vendor at the Enosburg Farmers’ Market for 20 years. Cecil and Jacquie also
sold religious goods throughout New England for Shomali Inc. for many years. Cecil was a lister
for many years for the Town of Franklin, and was also the Franklin Republican Party Chair for
many years. He was on the St. Mary’s Parish Council, and he had been in charge of the cemetery
for the past ten years. He was an active member of the Franklin County Right to Life group.
Cecil was very fond of birds, and saved many of them. He could often be seen out walking his
beloved dog, Hallie; and he had a lifelong passion for fishing and canoeing.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will celebrated Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. from Saint
Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 145 Square Round, Franklin. Father Roger L. Charbonneau will
be the celebrant and homilist. Assisting as Deacon will be The Reverend Mr. Gabriel Gagne.
The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at Saint Mary’s Church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the
funeral.
