Notes on Direct Objects and Indirect Objects
Direct Objects:
 Are always nouns or pronouns
 Answer the questions who or what
 Are located after an action verb
 Therefore, they are never located before the verb
 Are never found in a prepositional phrase
Indirect Objects:
 Are always nouns or pronouns
 Answer the questions to whom/for whom or to
what/for what
 Are located between the action verb and direct object
 Are never found in a prepositional phrase
 Remember, that you have to have a direct object in
order to have an indirect object, but not every sentence
that has a direct object will have an indirect object
Notes on Transitive and Intransitive Verbs
The term transitive verb refers to the action verb if there is a
