It is easy to look at some of the outlandish creations that feature on the capital’s
catwalks, and think that high fashion has very little to do with those of us that shop
on the high street. However, if you look at the more wearable styles, fabrics, colours
and patterns, you will see that the inspiration for high street fashion comes directly
from these designer garments. However, the influence of the Parisian catwalk is not
restricted to the clothing industry, it can also be seen in hairdressing.
When the leading designers look to show their latest creations; the models, makeup
and hairstyles are all important components of the designer’s overall vision. In the
same way that these designers influence the season’s clothing trends, the show’s
hairstylists create the look that represents the season’s hairstyle trends. It is these
styles that the celebrities look to, and as these styles flood our magazines, we turn to
our own hairdressers to recreate the look.
Over the next couple of blogs, I will be looking to show you the season’s catwalk
hairstyles for spring/ summer, and how we can use these to create some inspirational
bridal hair. Here is a little taster of what is to come, beautiful chunky French braids
from Antonio Corral.
Whether it’s a classic crossover, a halo braid, a fishtail plait or a two-stranded twist, plaits have
never been out of the limelight. Fashioned by the likes of Emily Blunt, Whitney Port, Kristen Stewart,
Blake Lively, Diane Kruger and Rachel McAdams, they add an extra element of ooh la la to an
otherwise regular pony while the new wave of halo braids can be added to a whole host of hairstyles
including buns, chignons, twists, bobs, ponytails, waves and even hair that’s been left long and loose
– the possibilities are endless!

Retro curls

curls. The look has a modern twist with low side partings (did we mention they were a
trend?) and they’re completely frizz-free.
The shows: Holly Fulton (pictured left), Maria Grachvogel (right)
The tip: Peter Gray advises “Twist and pin damp hair then allow to dry before shaking loose

Extreme side partings
The look: Androgyny is having a moment but the trend for the 1930s-inspired boyish combover actually oozes confidence and can look super-sexy.
The shows: Stella McCartney (pictured), Pucci, Fendi, Dior, Erdem
The tip: L’Oreal Paris ambassador Peter Gray says: “Try taking a ‘selfie’ to work out which
side your part suits you best, mirrors reverse and distort your image”. And if you like body in
your hair, don’t let that put you off this trend. Use your fingers instead of a brush to part and
style your hair.
