TEACHER INFORMATION
Whole group:
Prepare students for the theme of Fall Weather.
Coordinate with your cluster teachers or contact another CHILD teacher
in another part of the country. Build background knowledge with tapes,
videos, and books about weather, seasonal changes and weather
patterns. Focus on a specific weather topic, depending on available
resources. This pre-writing activity focuses on comparing and contrasting
different seasons and weather changes.

Materials Needed: Activity Sheet, videos, tapes, books about seasons and
different weather patterns, writing materials, construction paper.

Weather Words and What They Mean by Gail Gibbon
Adjust for different levels: Students may require a partner at the Computer
Station to navigate. Create a folder marked “Weather” and bookmark
the sites to make them easy to find.
Green Sleeve Suggestion: Put one Activity Sheet into a Green Sleeve and
have students take turns recording words found together.

Directions:
1. Take one Activity Sheet per student.
2. Use the resource books to find words and draw pictures to
summer.
3. Now find words and pictures to describe fall.
4. Write sentences about the two different seasons.
5. Practice reading your sentences to a friend.
Challenge: Tell another student about your favorite season of
the year. Give at least three reasons why you like this season
best of all. Remember, there are four seasons in a year: fall,
winter, spring and summer.
