The Way of St James- Rev. Michael Preston’s adventure begins in
early September
Love Me Love Mind Trustee , Rev. Michael Preston, will be walking the 500mile Camino in September to raise funds
for the charity.
El Camino de Santiago de Compostela “The Way of St James’ has been a Christian pilgrim route for over a thousand
years. Michael will be walking the French Route of the Camino over the Pyrenees and across the north of Spain to
the Cathedral of Santiago where legend has it that the remains of the Apostle, St James, are buried.
Michael writes:
I first became interested in Santiago de Compestela when I heard about the "Botafumeiro" - the giant incense bowl
that swings high right up into the roof of the cathedral. Some say its purpose was to cover the smell of the many
unwashed pilgrims who had come to visit the shrine of St James. Seeing the film "The Way" at Epsom Mental Health
Week got me interested in the Camino - the pilgrim path to Santiago. When I retired I really enjoyed doing a long
walk from Epsom to Folkestone and from that grew the idea that I might walk the Camino. 500 miles is a long way
for an OAP but I am encouraged that many others have managed it before me.
Michael will begin in early September and hopes, God willing, to take about 6 weeks for the 500 mile walk.
