PART A
The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality
enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year.
1. To switch over to the ICT aided teaching methodology in all departments
2. To organize special programmes enabling the students to perform a major role in the nation
building process and thereby promote the spirit of Nationalism among students
3. To submit NAAC Reaccreditation report by the end of October
4. To organize a three-day special orientation programme for the I DC students to enable them
to cope with the College campus culture.
5. To organize workshops and seminars at the all department level
6. To organize national inter collegiate seminars by the PG departments of the college
7. To organize remedial coaching for the benefit of the weak students.
8. To conduct Career Guidance sessions in all departments by considering today's career trends
9. To Provide counselling facilities to students in a better way.
10. To arrange Bridge programmes especially in Mathematics
11. To make documentation work more efficient through computerization.
12. To take steps to achieve cent per cent computer literacy in the campus
13. To strengthen NCC activities.
14. To promote participation of students in the inter-collegiate seminars and competitions
15. To arrange Women Empowerment programmes for the girl students
16. To intensify special coaching for weak students especially of minorities, SC/ST categories,
students from rural areas etc.
17. To observe important days such as the Environment Day ,Hiroshima Day, Independence
Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Aids Day ,Old Age day, Alzheimer's day and festivals like Onam,
Christmas and Id.
18. To organize Alumni meet in a better way.

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution.

The academic year began with an orientation programme for the staff members
The English faculty conducted a workshop on Effective Communication for the nearby
School teachers
Celebration of the International year of Chemistry was observed by launching a Hundred
Day Programme
A seminar on Energy Conservation and Environmental Studies was organized for
students to sensitize them about the need for conserving energy and preserving
environment.
Blood Donation camp was organized in the campus
Students occasionally visited rehabilitation homes for the physically and mentally
disabled and offered helps
Life guidance programmes for students were organized
Legal awareness classes for students were organized.
Remedial coaching classes for weak students
Cultural exchange programme from the staff of foreign University

3. Innovation in curricular design and transaction
Three of our faculty members are appointed members of the Board of studies of the University.
They actively take part in preparing the syllabus for the University.One of our teachers
functions as the coordinator for Humanities and Social Sciences in the UGC sponsored add-on
programmes and assists in the design of programmes. The Choice Based Credit and Semester
System introduced by the university have created a new momentum in the academic culture in
the college.
4. Inter -disciplinary programmes started.
The add on courses which were started five years back viz Functional English, Soil Science and
Counsellor Training still continue by incorporating modern trends and by applying ICT. The

open courses which students have to take in the fifth semester provide them with the
opportunity to study a course offered by any other department except their own. The open
courses we offer are:






Readings in Economics,
Energy and Environmental Studies
Modern Banking Practices,
Dairy Science,
Theory, Language and Appreciation of Films,
Management of Ornamental Fish Breeding, Rabbit Farming, Poultry, Quail Farming,
Vermiculture, Bee Keeping and Sericulture.
5. Examination reforms implemented
Model exams were conducted in the University exams pattern. Periodical assessment system
was also in operation.

7. Initiative towards faculty development programmme.
The staff members who do not possess a Ph. D degree are encouraged to do research and
acquire the same. At present four faculty members are doing Ph. D under the FIP programme.
Financial support is provided by the management for the faculty to attend national seminars
and conferences .At the beginning of every academic year a renewal programme for the faculty
is organized.

11. New Collaborative research programmes
The teachers of the Chemistry dept. publish articles in a collaborative venture with other
experts in the field
MSW dept. works in collaboration with the NGOs in the field to bring alleviation to patients
suffering from geriatric problems and Alzheimer's disease
The department of Zoology works in collaboration with the Agricultural University, Tamilnadu,
supported by the dept. of Biotechnology, New Delhi, in its Major Multi Institutional Network
Project on Apiculture.

Dr. Ebbey P. Koshy is appointed a member of panel inspection team in the Jawahar Navodaya
Vidyalaya in 2011.
Prof. Saju M .Sebastian, Dept. of Chemistry, secured The Madam Curie Award, in the Swedeshi
Science Congress, held at Kollam
Dr. George V.Thomas , Dr. Ebey P. Koshy and Prof. Saju M. Sebastian, Dept. of Chemistry, were
invited to present papers in the National Conference on Advanced Polymer, Fibers and Fabrics
held at DMSRDE ,Kanpur ,UP from December 26-28,2011.

Sri Mathew Kanamala, Head ,Dept. of Social Work, was invited to present a paper in the
International Conference held at Manchester, UK in October,2011.
16. Internal resources generated
Rs.9, 65,265/17. Details of departments getting SAP, COSIST (ASSIST)/DST, FIST etc
The research dept. of Chemistry and the graduate dept. of Physics together got the help of
Rs.50 lakhs from DST.
18. Community Services.
As part of social service, the NCC cadets donated study materials to the poor students of Govt.
L. P. School, Kudayathoor.
NCC unit donated 25 bed sheets to the poor inmates of Blind School, Kudayathoor, on July 29,
2011.
A blood donation camp was organized on August 19, 2011. Fifty units of blood were donated.
On Gandhi Jayanthi Day, the NCC cadets cleaned the Moolamattam Town and its premises and
it was appreciated by the civic authorities.
The NCC unit made a visit to the Assissi Sneha Bhavan and had lunch with the inmates.
The members of the women cell made a visit to the inmates of the Sacred Heart Human
Resource Development Center, a rehabilitation home for the mentally retarded, and
entertained the inmates.
In the NSS three-day camp, the volunteers cleaned the campus and the nearby public roads.
The Seven- day Camp of the NSS was held at St. Antony's High School, Vellikulam. With the
participation of the local people, the volunteers constructed a road for the public.
The students and staff gave a financial assistance of Rs.2000/-to the patients suffering from
terminal illness at Assissi Bhavan.
The MSW students organized a seven-day Village Exposure programme at Panackachira, near
Koruthodu. It included house visits and organizing children, youth and women of the poor
sections in the society. The seven-day stay in the poor people's homes gave a new experience
to students
Our students organized a free Medical camp at Kudayathoor on November 19,2011.

Our students organized Child Mental Health Programme in the neighboring schools and
provided tips to maintain mental health.

Four teachers are newly recruited in the dept. of English and two teachers in the dept. of
Chemistry.

23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on
student feedback.
Teacher evaluation by students is introduced in all courses and the feedback form used for the
purpose is the one provided by the NAAC. The teachers themselves evaluate the respective
feedback form and take appropriate actions. Apart from this, the Principal also collects
feedback from the students in a format prepared by him. After collecting the feedback the
Principal meets each teacher personally and brings to his notice the impressions of the students
about his performance. If any correction is to be made it is done in a very friendly manner.

24. Unit cost of Education
Rs.35, 200/25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination
results, issue of certificates:
The admission list is prepared with the help of the computer and all certificates are also issued
through them. The entire office work is done through computers.

27. Technology Upgradation.
In the new Language lab the latest software is installed for imparting the different language
skills.
In the class rooms LCD projectors are installed and teachers and students are encouraged to
make use of them.
28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students
A cent per cent computer literacy drive was launched in the campus and now all the students
are computer literates with their own e-mail IDs. Internet facility is available in all the
departments and in the common computer lab for the students wherein internet facility is
provided to all the 50 computers there.

29. Financial Aid to students.
Financial aid is given to eligible students. This year the following financial assistance was
provided:

30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association:
The alumni association gathers on December 26. It is a platform for the alumni to interact with
teachers and friends. Alumni helped to give scholarship to the poor and talented students.
31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association.




The PTA organizes the Chavara Memorial Talk in the campus to honour Blessed
Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of the CMI Religious Order, which manages the
College.
Provides Scholarship to meritorious students and poor students
Provides help to print the College News letter THROBS
Helps the administration to control campus politics and unnecessary strikes
32. Health Services
A doctor from the Medical Centre close to the college assists in providing medical helps to the
students in times of emergency. A blood group detection camp was organized at the beginning
of the academic year. A talk on “Dental Hygiene" by Dr. Sivy. V. Pulayath, Al Azar Dental
College, Thodupuzha, was organized for the benefit students. A dental check up was also
carried out.
33. Performance in Sports activities
The Physical Education dept. offered an open course in Physical Education for the students. It
also organized various training programmes for Basket Ball, Foot Ball and Cricket. Annual Sports
meet was conducted on February 8, 2012.

34. Incentives to outstanding Sports persons.
Outstanding sports persons are admitted to the different courses by providing a sports quota at
the time of admission
They are given special coaching after the regular class hours.
The Management provides incentives to them by giving special helps and by providing part
time job in the campus to earn an income.
35. Student Achievements and Awards
Kumari Arya Bose, II B .A. English, was selected to participate in The All India Sainik Camp at
Delhi and won prizes.
Kumari Devi G Nath, III B. A. English and Binimol P.G., II B. A. English were selected to
participate in the Tanima Literary Camp at School of Letters, MG University, and bagged
Scholarships for their performance.
Kumari Elsa Mary Sebastian, II B. Sc Chemistry, was selected to represent the State in the
Republic Day Parade-2012, at New Delhi.
Kumari Jasmin Baby, I B.A. English secured the second prize in the English Recitation
Competition in the University Youth Festival.
36. Activities of the guidance and Counselling Unit.
An expert counsellor Sri. Mathew Kanamala is available for providing counseling services to the
students. Career seminars were arranged for the final year degree students on Interview
Techniques and Resume Preparation. The resource person was Mr. Jinto Mathew, from RACE,
Kochi.
Another activity of the unit was organizing life guidance programmes. In the currrent academic

37. Placement services provided to students.
Placement opportunities are provided to the students. In order to equip them properly special
coaching classes on How to Face an Interview, How to Take Part in a GD, Resume Preparation
etc were organized at the college and department levels.
This year Sri. Lal Krishna, III B. Sc Physics, got selection to the Infosys Company as a Junior
Manager.
38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff
At the beginning of the academic year a separate orientation programme was organized for the
non-teaching staff. They were also provided training in the use of computers. Our staff
participated in the office training programes organized by the University.
39. Healthy practices of the institution




The College has a good Remedial coaching system. It caters to the needs of the weak
students. Special study materials are also prepared and given to the students. The
performance of the students is also evaluated regularly and remedial measures are
suggested for improvement.
Tutorial system is introduced in accordance with the direction of the UGC. Students are
divided into a group of around 30 and special themes related to moral and spiritual
values are presented before them. They reflect the matter and find new ideas and
solutions to the theme. This helps in the moral and spiritual formation of the students.
The book Value Education by Dr. Jose Kuriedath CMI, Education Secretary, CMI
Congregation, was used as a text book for tutorial sessions.
The Alumni Meet is held every year on December 26.
The college arranges coaching classes for entry in services to the students. Classes on
GK, Reasoning, English, Numerical Ability, Computer Awareness, Computer based typing
etc are being conducted on days convenient to the students. Sufficient study materials
are also given to them and their performance is assessed periodically. Proper guidance
and help are also given to them for applying various job vacancies.

The class teacher system helps the teachers to establish personal relationships with
students and monitor their academic progress.
Admission procedure is fully transparent
Special concern and emphasis are given to the students belonging of SC/ST by providing
scholarships and concessions
A three day special orientation programme is organized for the new comers
Periodic class tests, model examinations are conducted apart from the end of semester
examinations conducted by the University. They help to promote the academic
excellence of students.
Class wise PTA meetings are organized apart from the usual gathering of parents
conducted at the beginning and at the end of the academic year. This provides an
opportunity to discuss the academic performance of their wards.
Regular staff meetings are convened in every 45 days to discuss the quality of the
programmes and other matters relating to the daily running of the college. Minutes of
the meetings are recorded.
Arts Festival and Sports day celebrations are held
Non-politicized election to form College union. Students Union promotes leadership
quality among students.
Enrichment programmes for the teaching and non-teaching staff are regularly
organized.
Active and supporting PTA
Literary forum to nurture the literary talents of students
Bhoomitra Sena is active in the campus to promote eco friendly life style

DST project of Rs 50 lakhs will certainly give a boost to the research wing of the college
Active role performed by NCC and NSS in the college will help to attain more discipline
in the campus
The preparation and submission o f NAAC Reaccreditation Report have boosted all
activities of the college.

The addition of new infrastructure facilities have ushered in a wave of enthusiasm to
