2014-2015 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MONTICELLO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS As in the past, there will be a number of local scholarships offered to those of you who plan to continue your education beyond high school. Some of the scholarships will be only for people who plan to attend a degree-granting college or university. Others will be for those students who plan to attend a nursing school, secretarial school, technical school, and other trade school. Read the descriptions of local scholarships for which you may apply. If you have further questions, see Mrs. C. Wells. You may apply for most of the scholarships for which you are qualified by doing the following: 1. Complete the application blank according to the directions given. 2. Return the completed scholarship application blanks to the guidance office on or before Friday, February 27, 2015. This is a listing of local scholarships. Scholarships that are available from the campus you are enrolled at are separate from these and for which you may also apply. If you have not already applied for financial aid, which is also a separate course of action from this application, please do so immediately! Mrs. Colleen L. Wells Guidance Counselor 2014-15 SCHOLARSHIPS AMSTUTZ-MARTY AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS One $250.00 scholarship awarded to a high school graduate who will be enrolling in a college, vocational or technical school. The students must have had above average grades, show excellence in leadership, character and citizenship. Need will also be considered. Scholarship awarded upon written notice of enrollment in school. AMSTUTZ-MARTY AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP One $200.00 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior who attended Monticello High School for his/her junior and senior years. The student is asked to indicate need and enroll at a technical school, college, or university. Scholarship awarded upon written notice of enrollment in school at start of 2nd semester. BEN F. FELDT AGRICULTURE AWARD This award of approximately $400.00 will be given to a graduate of Monticello High School attending a 4-year college, university, or short course to study agriculture or a related field. Award may be shared if committee feels two candidates are equal in qualifications. Scholarship awarded 2nd semester of freshman year. DEVIN EMBERSON/APPARITIONS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP One $ 500.00 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending a vocational/technical college. Financial need will be considered. Scholarship awarded 2nd semester of freshman year. HAZEL AND KENNETH R. KUNDERT SCHOLARSHIP One scholarship of up to $250 will be awarded to a graduating senior enrolling at a 4-yr. college or technical college. Students will be judged on academic achievement, motivation and drive to work up to their potential, participation in extracurricular activities, and financial need. Committee will consider the student’s work effort in school and their desire to better themselves through further study. JOHN BURGY MEMORIAL AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP This award of approximately $300 will be given to a graduating senior attending a 4-year college, university, or short course to study agriculture or a related field. JOHN PONYICSANYI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS One or Two $500.00 scholarships given to Monticello graduating seniors, attending a college or technical school. Scholarships awarded at the beginning of the fall semester after providing proof of full-time enrollment to the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. LAWRENCE F. MARTY CHARITABLE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP One non-renewable scholarship to be awarded to a Monticello School District resident enrolled in Environmental Studies. Additional scholarships may be awarded to other fields of study. LIONESS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS Three $500.00 scholarships awarded to students going on to college or a vocational school. Must have earned at least a "C" average for their high school career. Student must have exhibited skills in leadership, citizenship, and have been an active participant in community projects such as Lioness Food stand, church activities, etc. Student must be a graduate of Monticello High School. After the first semester in college, the student must be in good standing, not on academic probation. Scholarships awarded 2 nd semester of freshman year. LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS Two $500 (??) Scholarships awarded to students enrolled in a vocational school, college, or other academic program acceptable to the scholarship donors. Scholarship awarded 2 nd semester of freshman year. MASONIC SCHOLARSHIPS Three $700.00?? scholarships may be awarded. This money is interest earned from a principle investment given by an anonymous donor, a member of the Masonic Lodge. Similar scholarships are also given to New Glarus and Belleville High School. The recipient of this scholarship may enroll in either a technical school, 4-year college, or other post-high school program acceptable to the selection committee. Scholarship awarded 2nd semester of freshman year. MONTICELLO ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS Four $300.00 scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants. Priority will be given applicants with four years of participation on school athletic teams. Other selection criteria for this award will be demonstrated athletic leadership and evidence of high standards of sportsmanship. The applicant must plan to enroll in a post-secondary education program. The scholarship must be used within two years by the recipient. The award will be distributed during the first semester of the student’s second year of school for a program of greater than 2 years in length or halfway through any program less than two years in length. MONTICELLO COMMUNITY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Three $500.00 scholarships will be awarded to a student enrolled in a technical college or four-year program. Student must have been involved in community service and have had at least a "C" average. During the second semester of the student’s first year of school the scholarship will be granted. MONTICELLO EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP Minimum of $50 to a maximum of $250, depending on money making receipts. Given to a student attending a 2-4 year accredited college, university, or technical school leading to a 2-4 year degree. Given to a student registering for first semester of sophomore year. Criteria for nomination is scholastic, character, leadership, maturity(Goal-oriented/Self directed/Responsible), and ingenuity and creativeness. MONTICELLO FBLA SCHOLARSHIP A $100 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has been active in local, regional, and state FBLA activities for a minimum of two years, has at least a “C” average, and will be attending a post-secondary institution. If all other qualifications are equal, preference will be given to the student majoring in a Business related field. The scholarship will be awarded 2nd semester of the freshman year. MONTICELLO FFA SCHOLARSHIPS Two $200.00 scholarships to be given to seniors who will be enrolled in a 4-year college, vocational school, or Farm Short Course, and have been an FFA member for a minimum of 2 years. One will go to a student majoring in agriculture & the other would not need to be majoring in agriculture. MONTICELLO FFA ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP(S) Up to three $ 500.00 scholarships will be awarded to a senior who is an FFA member and will be majoring in an agriculture related field (maximum of 1 of these scholarships may be given to someone not going into agricultural field). Scholarship will be awarded after completion of 1st semester of post-high school education. MONTICELLO FCCLA SCHOLARSHIPS Two $100.00 scholarships will be given to a senior who has been active in FCCLA for a minimum of two years. Leadership, service to school and the community, character, and a minimum of a C average in high school will be considered. The scholarship will be awarded in the second semester of their sophomore year or the final term of a 1-year program. The scholarship must be claimed within 3 years of high school graduation date. MONTICELLO FCCLA COMMUNITY CONNECTION SCHOLARSHIP One or more scholarships of up to $250 will be given to a senior(s) enrolled in a college or technical school. A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required as well as active participation in High School FCCLA for a minimum of three years with one of those years being the senior year. The scholarship(s) will be awarded, with written proof of enrollment, the first semester of the sophomore year or the final term of a one-year program. The scholarship must be claimed within 3 years of high school graduation date. MONTICELLO PTO SCHOLARSHIPS Two or more scholarships ($250-$500) will be awarded to a MHS graduate who is attending a 4-year college or university. The scholarship criteria will be based on excellence in leadership, character, and community service. The student must have a 3.0 grade point average. The scholarships will be awarded at the beginning of the second year of full-time enrollment. The recipient must show proof of enrollment and be in good standing at the university. The scholarship must be claimed within 3 years of high school graduation date. MUSIC PARENT’S SCHOLARSHIPS Two or three $500.00?? scholarships given to students who have shown excellence in their musical field and are planning to attend a vocational school or college. A committee of three music parents, the band director, and the choral director will determine the scholarship recipients. Scholarship awarded 2nd semester of freshman year. RAMONA LOUGHAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to those students who will be majoring in education. Scholarship awarded 2nd semester of freshman year. ROBERT AND HELEN STAUFFER SCHOLARSHIP At least $1,000 shall be awarded annually to a graduating senior from Monticello High School or a previous recipient of this scholarship who will be attending an accredited college, university or technical school. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Preference may be given for financial need, but this is not a restriction. SCHENK FAMILY MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP A $6,000 multiyear ($1,000/$1,500/$1,500/$2,000) scholarship to be awarded to a senior who has shown participation and enthusiasm for high school music programs and participated in said programs for no less than 3 years. Applicant need not be intending to major in music but preference may be given to those intending to do so. THOMAS H. BRUSVEEN SCHOLARSHIP A non-renewable scholarship of up to $ 1,500 to be awarded to a Monticello senior who plans to pursue a career in Music. Scholarship may divided between two qualified applicants. TJ DISCH/MONTICELLO FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Two-$500 scholarships will be awarded to graduated seniors who are enrolled in trade school, technical college, or college with a goal of a career in fire safety/EMS, trades, healthcare or agriculture. The scholarship criteria will be based on community involvement, financial need, GPA, family involvement in Fire/EMS services, display of good moral character. The scholarship will be awarded at the beginning of the second semester of the freshman year. One letter of recommendation must be submitted from a non-family member community member to reflect the applicant’s display of good moral character.
