Scope of the collection
It centres on individuals and families associated with
Barking and Dagenham. You will also find collected
works, such as Who’s who in Essex (1935).
The Fanshawe family collection can be found in Bay
14. A separate leaflet for this is in preparation.
The books are for reference only, so are always
available on the open shelves.
Before the re-opening of Valence House in summer 2010,
each volume was carefully cleaned by Archives and Local
Studies volunteers before being added to the sustainable
custom-built oak shelves in the new library.
