Note that there are three Departments in The Crane School of Music (Music Education, Performance, & Theory/History/Composition). Students must satisfy at least one of the AE, AC or XC modes outside of Crane; practically speaking, this means the XC will be fulfilled outside of Crane. Modes of Inquiry: SB or SP - Scientific Inquiry (3 cr) – science course does not have to have a lab (it is optional) SA - Social Analysis (3 cr) XC - Cross-Cultural (3 cr) – XC must be taken outside of Crane if AE is taken in Crane AE - Aesthetic-Experiential (2 cr) – satisfied by ensemble requirements; AE must be taken outside of Crane if XC is taken in Crane AC - Aesthetic-Critical (3 cr) – satisfied by MUCB 323 Music History III HI – Historical Inquiry (3 cr) - satisfied by MUCB 202 Music History II. (Prior to Fall 2014, the “HI” mode was two modes: Western Civilization (WC) and American History (AH). They are now combined.) Modern Language Proficiency: ML - Students must complete through the equivalent of 103-level. See Undergraduate Catalog for more information. Credits for ML courses count as LA electives. Physical Education/Health Requirement: (credits vary) PE - Students must complete 2 courses with PE or HW designation. Non-Music Liberal Arts Electives: (9 cr) These courses cannot have an "@" in front of the title in the Schedule of Classes.
