1. Debate Question Card (15pts):
a. Write four questions, one for each group, regarding their perspectives
b. Question Types: Two Level 2 Questions and Two Level 3 Questions
c. Provide answer to each question
d. Create one simile or metaphor reflecting each group’s main arguments
2. Individual Grade (15 pts):
a. Lead Judge:
i. Introduce all parties and set binding arbitration agreement
ii. Ask at least three questions that move debate forward
iii. Give closing statement declaring who won and why
b. Assistant Judge:
i. Bring court to order and maintain order
ii. Introduce Lead Judge
iii. Ask at least three questions that move debate forward
c. Associate Judge:
i. Keep time
ii. Ask at least three questions that move debate forward
iii. Recognize participants to speak
d. All judges
i. Question participants based on prepared questions and questions created
on fly during debate
3. Group Grade (10 pts):
a. Remain on task during class preparation
b. Pay attention to opposing views during debate
c. Keep debate moving forward via questions and follow-up questions
d. Nameplate (name, slogan, icon) made and displayed
e. Prop/costume used/worn
Simile: compares things indirectly so they still stand alone but are connected.
Use conjunctions to link items (and, like, as, than)
i.e.: Mr. D’s yawp sounds like a wild lion’s roar.
Metaphor: compares things directly so they are clearly linked without independence.
i.e.: When Mr. D yawps, he is a lion roaring in the jungle.

2. Individual Grade (15 pts):
a. Remain on task during class preparation and debate proceeding
b. Pay attention to opposing views during debate
c. Must present two ideas in support of your group during the debate
d. Nameplate (name, slogan, icon) made and displayed
e. Prop/costume used/worn
f. Display Higher Level Discussion Skills: support arguments with relevant
metaphors and similes, primary sources and use of Ethos, Logos and
Pathos. This is where winners can separate themselves from losers!!!
g. Dramatic and/or thorough argument presentation
3. Group Grade (10 pts):
a. Deliver Opening Statement
b. Deliver Closing Statement
c. Actively engage in rebuttal rounds
d. All group members participate
e. Appropriate Citizenship Displayed Throughout Proceeding
