ASYE Entitlement Paper:
Training and Development Opportunities
As a NQSW working for Cambridge County Council you will be employed in a unit /
Team where you will be supported by the CSW / Team Manager/Senior Social
Worker throughout your first year of employment. They will be your Assessor. The
Assessor will lead on your practice development and will undertake the formal
assessment of your competence.
In addition to this you will be allocated a coordinator from the Workforce
Development Team who will support your additional learning and developmental
needs by facilitating and running the monthly training programme, monthly action
learning sets on the same day in the afternoon and attending and offering advice and
support at your Learning Agreement, 3, 6 and 9 month reviews.
This first year will be a mixture of practice based learning opportunities, skills training
and individual and group reflective supervision. For the first six months you will be
provided with fortnightly reflective supervision sessions and monthly thereafter. This
will be via individual and group sessions on a fortnightly rotation.
You will attend 20 training days and an additional 3 study days if you choose to
complete the 30 credit post graduate module at ARU.
WFDT Training Programme based on the KSS. This will be 10 days of the
training offer.
This year’s programme will run the first Tuesday of each month between September
2015 and June 2016. A range of guest speakers / trainers and service leads will be
invited to teach on each topic. There will be a working lunch which will act as a Q
and A session. Your Assessor will be encouraged to attend these sessions if they
have any questions regarding the programme.
In the afternoon there will be group reflective practice sessions. These sessions will
embed the learning from the morning, bring out themes from the Q and A session.
You will be expected to attend all 10 days
Anglia Ruskin University ASYE Module
As part of the ASYE programme you will attend four teaching days at Anglia Ruskin
University. You will have the option to complete a Certificate in CPD or an accredited
30 credit module. Those choosing the academic route will have an extra day to
discuss their assessed piece of work and an additional 3 days study time to
complete the assignment.
As the ASYE Scheme is a national programme you will be required to complete the
paperwork which has been provided by Skills for Care and adapted for Cambridge
County Council. This will include the:
Critical Reflective log
You will complete The Critical Reflective Log during your first year which will enable
you to demonstrate your progression through the year and will develop into your
portfolio. It will help you reflect on practice and incorporates the Professional
Development Plan, three critical reflections, evidence of professional documentation,
feedback and three direct observations. You will submit the completed portfolio to
the ASYE Development Team in time for the Moderation Panel.
Record of Support and Progressive Assessment
Your Assessor will complete the Record of Support and Progressive Assessment
which is the summative record of your progressive development and will incorporate
the learning agreement, personal development plans, three, six and nine month
reviews and the final assessment and recommendation of outcome. The reviews will
give you and your Assessor the opportunity to address any learning or additional
needs that may become apparent throughout your supported year.
Your Assessor will provide you with monthly critically reflective supervision and
complete your overall assessment which will inform whether you have passed the
year.
Moderation
All portfolios will be submitted to a moderation panel which will consist of Group /
Team Managers, Principle Social Workers, WFDT members, external
representatives from regional partnerships and Anglia Ruskin University Academics.
The purpose of the panel is to endorse the assessor’s decision. This will be
Cambridgeshire County Council’s final decision.
Probation Period.
The ASYE year is incorporated into Cambridge County Councils Probation Period. If
you successfully compete the ASYE year you will be offered a permanent contract
with Cambridge County Council. If you do not successfully complete the year you
may be subject to a performance plan or in some circumstances you will not be
offered a permanent contract.
Increment
On successful completion of the ASYE year an increment to the value of £500.
