HOMECOMING 2014 CONTINUED
OCTOBER IS HOMECOMING MONTH!!!
We have a lot of great activities planned for the students
this month from the 3rd Annual Cupcake Social to our
Hollywood Knights Homecoming Dance! Please take a
further look at these activities below as well as
extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities for
your student. If there are any questions or concerns please

CLASS INFORMATION
7th Grade Only: Come join us for our 3rd Annual Cupcake
Social! The Cupcake Social will be Thursday, October 9 from
6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the AC Cafeteria. Get a chance to
meet the AC staff, students, and parents. Please feel free to
bring cupcakes and desired toppings to this event. RSVP to
Ms. Brown at lcbrown1@cps.edu. Hope to see you there!
HOMECOMING 2014
The theme this year is Hollywood Knights!!!! This is an
exciting week filled with fun events to get everyone full of
school spirit and pride! Below you can find all the details in
regards to homecoming.
Spirit Week (Tuesday, October 14- Saturday, October 18)
Tuesday, October 14: Twin day (Students wear the same
attire for the day)
Wednesday, October 15: Wild N’ Out day (This is another
version of Wacky Tacky day. Students are allowed to get
creative with their outfits within the school dress code)
Thursday, October 16: Hollywood day (Students are
allowed to dress as celebrity look a -likes)
Friday, October 17: Spirit day (Students wear all Kenwood
gear)
Pep Rally: Students can participate in the pep rally, which is
held in the Gym for students to get excited and pumped up
about the Homecoming game! Pep rally will be 8th period
and after school. It usually ends around 4:00 p.m. Tickets
are $5.00. Tickets will go on pre-sale Monday, October 6
during students lunch period outside the AC Office.
Homecoming game: Kenwood Broncos vs Washington
Patriots. The game will be Friday, October 17 at Stagg
Stadium, 5530 S. Ellis. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are
$7.00 and will go on pre-sale Monday, October 6 during
students lunch period outside the AC Office.
Homecoming dance: The dance is Saturday, October
18 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Girls’ Gym
(downstairs). Students should enter through Door 5
on the Lake Park side of the building. The theme is
Hollywood Knights. Students are not allowed to wear
gym shoes, jeans, baseball caps, white t-shirts, or
sagging jeans. This is a formal event and we are
encouraging students to dress up. Tickets are $10.00
and will go on pre-sale Monday, October 6 during
students lunch period outside the AC Office. Students
can bring outside guest however students must not
have any D’s or F’s and have to return the guest form
to Ms. Brown by Friday, October 10.
ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
PSAT (PRELIMINARY SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST):
Kenwood Academy is offering the PSAT to any
interested 7th- 11th grade student at 8:00 a.m. Saturday,
October 18, 2014. Students should arrive by 7:45 a.m.
with photo id, no. 2 pencils, and a calculator. Cell
phones are prohibited in the testing area. The cost is
$15.00. For more information on PSAT testing, contact
Ms. Drzewiecki at mfdrzewiecki@cps.edu.
LITERACY NIGHT:
Kenwood Academy presents Lions, Lanterns, and
Literacy, Oh My! This event is open to 7th – 9th grade
families. This event will be held on Thursday, October
23, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. This is an
opportunity for teachers and students to share their
work around reading, writing, and critical thinking at
Kenwood. Activities for children ages 3-10. Please
contact Ms. Hatoum with any questions at

IMPORTANT DATES
Wednesday, October 8: Quarter 1 progress reports will
be distributed
Monday, October 13: No School, Columbus Day
Wednesday, October 15: Physical Examinations due
Extracurricular Activities
Interested in Chess?
The Academic Center is excited to announce it has a
Chess Team! Mr. Hester is the sponsor for the Chess
Team and can be reached at bdhester1@cps.edu. The
Chess Team meets on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. 5:00 p.m. in room 227.
Interested in Art?
The Art Club meets every Tuesday from 3:15 p.m. – 4:45
p.m. in room 227. The Art Club is sponsored by Ms. Elke
from the Hyde Park Art Center. The cost is $50.00.

Interested in Soccer?
The Academic Center has its very own boys’ soccer
team this year! The head coach is Mr. Cedeno
(jmcedeno1@cps.edu) and the assistant coach is Mr.
Shelton (dshelton11@cps.edu). Please contact the
coaches for practice days and times.
Interested in Basketball?
Boys’ basketball season will begin soon! Our coach this
year will be Mr. L. Gill (llgill@cps.edu). Try-outs will be
announced soon and we will send out information as
soon as we receive it.
