CONFERENCE OPENING SESSION – “SETTING THE SCENE”
We promise that the Opening Session of the Conference will be INNOVATIVE and set the tone for
the following elements of the Progreamme. The opening will set the flow, look and feel of the
Conference, keywords being innovative, inspirational, interactive, open, stimulating, vital and
caring.
Increasingly governments are no longer providing all the kinds of care facilities and services people
seek. Citizens are asked to adopt a more active approach to their health and care situation. This
leads to new civil initiatives, to a changing society where citizens are taking care of each other;
working together with other care and also non-care organisations; and with younger people in their
communities.
Also, significantly, a lot of “elderly” people do not feel old at all. They are the “new youngsters”. In
terms of policy and citizenship; in terms of approached to clients; and in terms of management
styles and practices, including employment practices, it is essential to have an open minded
approach:





Where are we now?
What are we heading for in the immediate and more distant future?
Who are we dealing with?
What’s going on?
What lies ahead and how do we meet and deal effectively with these challenges?
There’s a lot going on in European countries and it is surprisingly new and inspiring to learn just
how old and young, civil and private initiatives are finding their way in a new society.
This age of rapid changes and moving concepts of citizenship asks for new approaches to
leadership and management.
By being aware of the world we are living in and the types of challenges and issues we are heading
for in the future, it is planned that the Opening will enable every participant in the EASHA
Conference to enter the Programme in a receptive, energetic, responsive and inspired mood.
Enjoy; participate; learn; and contribute!

Innovation is challenging. Most often it requires organizations to open their doors to
external resources and expertise that compliment, enhance or accelerate the work
already taking place inside the organization. This can lead to a spectrum of
collaboration opportunities, from sharing technologies and practices to partnering
more closely with key stakeholders, suppliers, etc. It may well also result in finding
new partners in entirely different areas/industries. This session will discuss ways
to build and support these partnerships and build meaningful and sustainable
relationships to the benefit your organization and services.

As technology advances at an unprecedented rate, completely novel devices,
applications and interfaces are being introduced. However, technology by itself is
not innovation. Nor should technology be seen as an end in itself, but rather as a
support to providing better services and supporting the development on new and
innovative ways of serving clients. It should address a need and not create others.
Innovation is about doing things differently and achieving better outcomes. This
session will cover the importance of systems thinking and hence ‘best practices’ by
addressing design, collaboration and expectations.
