ABOUT US

The British Language Training Centre, is a well-established language institute that offers courses in both the English and Dutch languages, as well as being a Cambridge CELTA training centre. The BLTC language courses and examinations attract over 3000 students per year, studying in over 30 programmes, with native-speaker teachers.

This leaflet informs you about the BLTC programmes related to the CLIL Teacher-Training and Cambridge ESOL Teacher

CLASSROOM ENGLISH

CONTENT

The English Teacher Training department is staffed by professional, qualified and experienced, native English-speaker trainers who work in a wide variety of educational areas: TTO, Examination training and Methodology.

This programme is designed for teachers who need to give lessons using English.

Understanding the principles of teaching through English - pros and cons

 Improving the teacher’s English fluency and pronunciation

Improving grammar and vocabulary

Giving practice and feedback on using classroom English

Developing strategies for teaching specific subjects through English

Improving teaching skills in English

 Learning classroom dynamics and classroom management in English

Understanding the student’s perspective – learning through English

THE TRAINING BLOCKS

BLOCK 1 – 24 HOURS

Core English

Areas covered:

 review of grammar in practical usage

 eradicating typical (Dutch/English) errors

 presenting new vocabulary, building up a personalised vocabulary

 developing fluency skills

 improving pronunciation and intonation

 confidence building

BLOCK 2 – 24 HOURS

Specialisation

Areas covered:

 giving mini-lessons and presentations in English – assessment and feedback

 functions and phrases appropriate to the professional classroom

 specialist vocabulary and paraphrasing skills

 advanced grammar

 simulations in English in the participant’s field of teaching

 understanding the student’s perspective

BLOCK 3 – 24 / 40 HOURS

International Qualification - Cambridge advanced certificate or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

Areas covered:

 preparation for the CAE or CPE exam – techniques

 extensive review of writing and correction

 vocabulary and grammar extension

 style and register

 reading and listening skills

 exam skills

Parallel to all three blocks there is the possibility for teachers to be observed while giving their own classes and lectures. After which, the observer (trainer) and teacher can discuss how English is being used in the classroom, exchange tips and suggestions on alternative approaches, discuss practical follow-up tasks and use of language.

LOCATION

The programme is offered in-house. The in-house course can be taken at any time throughout the year. The sessions will be arranged to suit your schedules.
