Thank you for your interest in a grant-funded Fellowship at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee!
The Aquarium hopes this experience will help guide and empower conservation-minded students to develop
solutions to complex conservation challenges in our communities and gain valuable hands-on work experience.
Our history of giving high-potential students the opportunity to work at our Aquarium has shown that such
professional experience opens new career options for students from all walks of life. Selected Fellows will be paid
an hourly wage along with a housing stipend.
Husbandry Fellows will be exposed to a several biology-related positions working with the Tennessee
Aquarium’s world-class living collection. Areas include aquaculture, aviculture, horticulture, herpetology,
laboratory sciences and entomology. This hands-on opportunity will offer an understanding freshwater
conservation, animal life support systems, caring for animals in closed aquatic environments, and keeping
exhibits interesting for our visiting guests.
Education Fellows will work closely with the Aquarium’s award-winning team of professional Educators. The
Aquarium offers a large selection of both formal and informal educational opportunities. From providing gallery
education programs to helping out with summer camps, the possibilities for a valuable summer experience are
endless.





Fellowships will last 8-weeks during June and July 2015
Work week: 30-40 hours per week
Pay: $12.00 per hour
Paid parking near the Aquarium
Housing stipend: up to $500 per month
Basic Internship Requirements





Minority* college student with science or education major
Able to commit to the full internship in June & July 2015
Able to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 lbs.
Show a high level of interest in science or education
Provide a college transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.0
Be able to pass a background check
Essential Duties and Responsibilities




Perform animal husbandry and education duties which may include: cleaning exhibits, preparing food,
feeding animals, maintaining exhibits, and monitoring animal behavior
Provide exemplary interpretation and assistance in programs
Maintain appropriate logs and records
Interact with staff, volunteers, and public in a professional and ethical manner
