START Training Request
2014-2015 AY
Before completing the application, visit the START website (www.gvsu.edu/autismcenter)  Events and
review our available statewide trainings. If our current offerings are not sufficient to meet your needs,
visit the RCN page on our website, and contact your RCN representatives for information on available
regional trainings offered by your local START trainers. If this does not meet your needs, you may
complete this application and your request will be reviewed by the START team. Send applications to the
START office at kurekm@gvsu.edu
Because our project is heavily focused on team-based, intensive trainings and regional capacity-building,
we have limited availability to provide trainings. We will give greater consideration to training requests
that support key project goals such as: demonstration of a clear plan for follow up and implementation,
alignment with a school improvement plan, local capacity building, or training in underserved areas.

START will provide the presenters for the training module. The cost of materials is the
responsibility of the host site but the START office staff will work with the site to prepare and
order materials for the training.
Responsibilities of the ISD/district serving as host site for the approved START Training
The RCN requesting and approved to host the RCN Training Module statewide will handle
logistics, such as registration, costs, and SCECH’s as listed below.
RCN applying for a training module should be willing to open the training statewide to
participants from other RCNs
RCN will find a venue with the necessary projection and sound equipment that holds at least
100 people (or as negotiated) and provide evidence that they can fill at least 50% of the
available training slots. Training registration must be available one month before the
scheduled training.
Determine the cost of a training venue and a simple lunch for attendees. A modest
registration fee, usually $25-30, may be charged to cover food and material costs. An RCN
may budget for training costs in their annual RCN application however this will be part of the
base budget and not an additional allocation to the RCN.
Set up a registration system for the requested training module (include registration fee). Send
the registration link to the START office to be posted on the START website for open
statewide registrations to RCN.
Prepare and disseminate a flyer to market the training within the RCN. Send a copy to the
START office to share with other RCN statewide.
Apply for SCECH for state board and social work for the training. The registration should
note the fee and how to obtain the SCECHs.
Notify the START office of the total expected number of attendees two weeks prior to the
date of the module training.
On the date of the training, make sure the venue is open at 7:30am and that the materials are
available, there is a sign-in sheet for attendees, and SCECH registration and sign up is
prepared.
Send the START office a copy of the sign-in sheet when completed.
