committed to building the next
generation of relationship
researchers. As part of this
commitment we are offering a
stipend, thanks to the support of the
Nuffield Foundation, to a selected
number of post-graduate students to
attend two events:
(1) OnePlusOne’s biennial lecture
(June 23rd 2014) delivered by
American Psychologist, Professor
George Vaillant, who will speak
about the Harvard Grant Study, the
longest longitudinal study ever
undertaken, and his role as Principal
Investigator.
(2) A follow-up event on policy,
practice, and research implications
the following day (June 24th 2014).
The students will get the opportunity
to attend both events and talk to
OnePlusOne about their own
research.
Successful applicants should have an
interest in the topics of relationships,
adult development, aging or
longitudinal studies, and be doing or
developing research in this area.
A subsidy of up to £250 per person is
available, subject to your case for
support. The closing date for
applications is May 21st 2014.

The 2014 Edith Dominian Memorial
Lecture
Policy and Practice Implications
Seminar
OnePlusOne’s
Edith
Dominian
Memorial lecture, held biennially,
serves as a platform to present
innovative research to academics,
researchers,
policy
makers,
practitioners, opinion formers and the
media to stimulate conversations and
new ways of thinking about family
relationships and how to support
them in modern society.
Organised by OnePlusOne and the
Cohorts and Longitudinal Studies
Enhanced Resources Programme
(CLOSER), and hosted by the Nuffield
Foundation, this follow-up event will
explore the policy, practice and
research implications of the themes
and issues raised during the lecture.
There will be an opportunity to
engage in discussion through a group
or a roundtable format.
This year Professor George Vaillant, an
American Psychiatrist and Principal
Investigator of the longest longitudinal
study of human development ever
undertaken, will be our key speaker.
Professor Vaillant will be discussing
the study and his most recent book
Triumphs of Experience: The Men of
the Harvard Grant Study, covering the
value (and challenges) of longitudinal
research in understanding adult
development, the importance of
relationships to physical and mental
health and the significance of social
aptitude to successful ageing.
This lecture is being held at the British
Library Conference Centre, London,
6.30pm on June 23rd 2014.
This event is being held at the Nuffield
Foundation, London, during the
morning (time tbc) of June 24th 2014.
