Fall Recycling Day

advertisement
Twice a year, in the fall and spring, SAVE has their community
recycling days open to the whole community to participate. During
these events, the community can stop by and have their recyclables
taken from their cars by the 50-70 SAVE volunteers as the cars drive
through the parking lot. The events are organized by our wonderful
SAVE interns.
Fall Recycling Day (October)
West Broad Elementary School
342 West Broad Street
Souderton, PA 18964
Cardboard-we collect about one and a half to two tons
worth
Old books- we donate the
books to charity or we recycle
them for the paper content
Bottle caps- send them to
Aveda Company to melt them
down and make them into shampoo bottles. We collected about 5-10
large boxes full. This represents thousands of bottle caps!
Tires- collected by Hugh Tague, which are then sent
off to be chipped up and used as playground chips or
placed in asphalt
Scrap metal- collect about 3-4 tons worth and SAVE is
rein burst (we received $861.90 this October)
Cell phones- taking to a local recycling company for
reuse or parts. SAVE is reimbursed for each phone.
Appliances- Our friend, David York, recycles the parts and metal. The CFC’s are
collected and sent to a company in Florida.
Computer Ink Cartridges- SAVE collects hundreds
during each recycling day. They are shipped off
to be recycled.
Clothes- SAVE donates them to charity such as
Big Brothers Big Sisters and Purple Heart
SAVE volunteers loading the bags full of clothes that
will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters charity
Car batteries- Collected by Interstate Battery where they are recycled. SAVE also gets
reimbursed for each battery.
Spring Recycling Day (April)

In the spring, SAVE works with the Montgomery Recycling Coordinator to add computers and
electronics (and sometimes hazardous household wastes) to our collection list.
This event attracts over 1,000 cars! The huge success of the program makes it one of the most
popular collection programs in the region! SAVE volunteers collect and sort nearly 10 tons of
materials! Montgomery County workers also collect several tractor trailer trucks full of
electronics. It is a great success for the entire community!
Christmas Tree and Cardboard Recycling (January)
