Charityworks is a national graduate scheme run by a partnership of charities and housing associations that aims at graduates who are looking to develop a career within the non-profit sector.

Successful candidates spend a year working full-time on the scheme, during which time they undertake one or more paid placements in a charity or housing association, as well as taking part in learning sessions, regularly meeting a mentor, and writing a series of research reports.

At the moment, some of the organisations that we’re working with include: Action on Hearing Loss,

Alzheimer’s Society, Bridge Mental Health, Family Action, Thera, St Mungo’s, Moat Housing, Terrence

Higgins Trust, Network Housing Group and Royal College of Radiologists.

We’re not looking for any particular qualifications or academic background, however we expect the potential candidates to have some experience of working or volunteering within the non-profit sector (this can be paid, unpaid, at home or abroad, and can include caring responsibilities).

Doct ors of the World UK is part of the global Médecins du Monde network, which delivers over 300 projects in more than 70 countries through 3,000 volunteers.

Our vision is of a world in which vulnerable people affected by war, natural disasters, disease, hunger, poverty or exclusion get the healthcare they need regardless of income or status.

Through our health programmes and advocacy we work to ensure excluded people overcome barriers to healthcare.

We are always looking for Volunteers to work in our Bethnal Green clinic: Doctors, Nurses, Support workers, interpreters & outreach workers. We require a commitment up to 6months carrying out 1 shift per week at our clinic.

GOAL

GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the poorest of the poor. We are a non-denominational, non-governmental and non-political organisation.

The London International Development Centre (LIDC) facilitates interdisciplinary research and training in international development by bringing together social and natural scientists from across the University of

The Medical Officer answers to the Head of Base but receives support from the Medical Coordinator. b) At headquarters there is a Medical Manager in charge of the overall medical strategy of PU-AMI, supported by 3 regional medical experts in charge of technical support to the field.

Raleigh International

Raleigh International is a youth and sustainable development charity that runs international expeditions.

Volunteers join Raleigh’s expeditions from all walks of life as Venturers (aged 17 – 24) or Volunteer

Managers (aged 25 – 75) and work on community, environmental and/or adventure projects. Expeditions depart throughout the year to Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua and Tanzania. Volunteer Manager roles include Project Manager, Medic, Logistics and Communications. Full training is provided whilst on expedition, meaning some roles do not require volunteers to have experience of working in the charity sector. Raleigh is currently recruiting volunteers for expeditions in 2013 and 2014.

The Volunteer Manager team consists of many different roles, all of which require different levels of experience.

Doctors and nurses who are applying for the Medic role are required to have at least 2 years post qualification experience. Other roles such as Project Manager and Logistics do not require specific experience, but it is essential to have strong team work, communication and leadership skills.

We provide an intense two week training period at the beginning of the expedition, so volunteers are not required to have fieldwork experience.

Generally our roles range from 6 months to 2 years, the shorter term roles requiring more experience usually. We are looking for health professionals with some training and job skill sharing experience as this will be predominantly what they will be doing in their volunteer roles. Excellent interpersonal and

communication skills, flexibility and a sense of humour are also important qualities in all VSO volunteers to enhance working relationships and experience while abroad.
