COMMUNITY NOTICE
Pikwàkanagàn has been invited to participate in Pembroke’s
celebration of the 400th Anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s
arrival at Morrison Island in un-surrendered Algonquin Territory.
The Champlain Trail Museum and Heritage Village in Pembroke
will host the event June 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2013.
With input from a few community members, Council has decided
that because of disrespect for the Algonquins by those who
followed Champlain during the last 400 years, we will not
celebrate Champlain. We will attend the event and will use the
occasion to educate the public of, and to celebrate, our history
and our on-going existence as Algonquin People.
The Pikwàkanagàn “Algonquin Awareness” Committee
(Della Meness, Jacqueline Sarazin, Irvin Sarazin,
Sherrylyn Sarazin, Shirley Kohoko,William Dick and Ron Bernard)
are creating our Exhibit to be presented at this event. If you have
any ideas for this exhibit or should you like to see what is in the
works, please contact Ron at the Council House.
