Visiting Fellowship 2013-14 Call for Applications The New Zealand Advisory Board of the New Zealand Centre at Peking University is calling for applications for the position of Visiting Fellow at the Centre. Opened in 2007, the New Zealand Centre is supported by New Zealand universities and government departments and its prestigious host institution in Beijing. It seeks to be a major nexus of academic, political, business and cultural collaboration between New Zealand and China, and one fulcrum of the Sino-New Zealand relationship. The Centre’s Visiting Fellowship is available to permanent or fixed-term academic staff of the five New Zealand universities that are affiliated to the Centre: The University of Auckland; the University of Waikato; Victoria University of Wellington; the University of Canterbury; and the University of Otago. This Fellowship is tenable in Beijing between September 2013 and January 2014. The Fellow must be based at an academic department of Peking University, and will be required to: give a seminar at the New Zealand Centre offer a lecture in the Centre’s undergraduate elective course grow the Centre’s profile amongst the academic staff of Peking University in their host department explore with the Centre’s Directors and Liaison in Beijing and the Advisory Board in New Zealand how relations can grow between their host department and the Centre mention their Centre affiliation in all interviews they undertake in China acknowledge their award in any research the Fellowship benefits publicise their Centre experience in their home institution on their return. Two types of Fellowship are available: For senior academics: A week-to-ten day Fellowship, in which the Fellow will give 1-2 public lectures in addition to the requirements above. Value: $2000. For other academics: A one-to-three month Fellowship, in which the Fellow will develop a research project in addition to the requirements above. Value: $2,000 per month. Fellows need not be New Zealand citizens. The Fellow will receive an orientation to the Centre’s mission and activities from the Secretary of the Advisory Board prior to taking up their award, and will liaise weekly during their Fellowship with the Secretary in New Zealand and the Centre’s Directors and Liaison in Beijing. The Secretary will also advise the Fellow of on-campus accommodation options (if desired). At the conclusion of their award they will send a short report on their activities and experiences to the Advisory Board. Applications for this Fellowship open on Monday June 24th 2013. Candidates are asked to complete the attached proposal form and send it, a CV of no more than 5 pages, and a supporting letter or email from your host department at Peking University to the Board Secretary by 5pm on Friday August 9th 2013. Preference will be given to candidates whose proposed affiliation and talks align with the NZ Inc China Strategy and advance the Centre’s aim to be a forum where the future parameters of the bilateral relationship between New Zealand and China in public policy, business, science and innovation are imagined and defined.
