The CAMHS Clinician is a new post within MAC-UK as the organisation partners with the Tavistock and
Portman NHS Foundation Trust, to develop new ways of partnership working with the statutory and
non-statutory sectors in the London Borough of Camden. The post holder is responsible for delivering
key outcomes for children on roll at the Camden Centre for Learning (CCfL), and for building links
between all relevant stakeholders. The CAMHS Clinician will report to and work closely with MAC-UK
Clinical Lead and Clinical Director, Chief Operating Officer and Lead professionals from CCfL and
CAMHS agencies.
Main duties, key tasks and responsibilities
1. Clinical
1.1 To offer and undertake specialist, highly flexible and innovative mental health interventions
(including assessments) with children and young people placed within SEBD provisions, and their
families, referring to other services, as appropriate. To consider the application of Integrate’s
youth-led approach and evidence based practice to the extent practicable within the service
1.2 To contribute to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency interventions for children and young people
and their families; this may include risk assessment, and subsequent risk management, with the
provision of specialist advice for other professionals
1.3 To formulate and implement highly specialised and innovative plans for the psychological
treatment and/or management of children, young people and families’ mental health and support
needs; to be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals
and groups and to evaluate and make decisions about the intervention options available
1.4 To provide exceptional clinical leadership whilst working closely with all disciplines to ensure the
delivery of highly innovative and adaptive evidence-based care for children and young people
placed within SEBD provisions and their families. To act as a Lead Professional, where appropriate,
taking responsibility for initiating planning and review of care plans.
1.5 To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment,
formulation and intervention approaches regarding children, young people and their families, and
to monitor progress
1.6 To act in a consultative capacity for stakeholders across agencies concerning the psychological
issues relating to children and young people placed within SEBD provisions and their families
1.7 To contribute to development of a network of services for children and young people placed
within SEBD provisions and their families, and to ensure the co-ordination of services provided.
This will involve working closely with colleagues from a wide range of agencies within and outside
CCfL.
1.8 To engage in clinical audit according to requirements of MAC-UK and the Tavistock & Portman
NHS Foundation Trust, and maintain a high standard of appropriate clinical record-keeping
1.9 To consider ways in which child and young adult mental health provision may develop within MACUK and other services. The post holder will be expected to advise the MAC-UK Clinical Lead and/or
Clinical Director on these issues
1.10 To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice across the service, by
continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective practitioner, taking part in regular
professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current
developments in the postholder’s discipline
1.11 To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in
relation to both the specific client group and mental health
2. Evaluation and Research
2.1 To contribute to the evaluation, monitoring and development of the operational policies within
CAMHS and CCfL, and across all SEBD provisions
2.2 To prepare reports of work as requested by MAC-UK, CCfL and CAMHS
2.3 To keep abreast of mental health research and practice
2.4 To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based practice in
individual work and work with other staff
2.5 To undertake development work of research or service nature on mental health aspects of the
work, and the provision of relevant services. Provide research advice to other staff undertaking
research

2.11 To ensure the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional
standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and
development programmes, regular professional supervision and appraisal, and an active
engagement with current developments.
2.12 It is expected that some study leave will be taken for attending and presenting at conferences,
reading relevant literature, writing papers for presentation at stakeholders’ organised and other
conferences.
3. Teaching, training and supervision
3.1 To provide appropriate teaching, training and educational inputs to other professionals and
relevant agencies
3.2 To provide professional and clinical consultation and supervision for mental and non-mental
health professionals as appropriate, and in line with the MAC-UK supervision policy
3.3 To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the client group across a range
of agencies and settings, where appropriate
3.4 To develop skills in the area of professional post-graduate teaching, training and supervision;
3.5 To provide professional mental health advice to external services and agencies working with
children and young people within SEBD provisions, including appropriate models of provision
which are youth-led, evidence-based and needs-led
3.6 To provide supervised placements for trainees from professional mental health work programmes
in collaboration with the MAC-UK’s Clinical Lead and/or Clinical Director and Chief Operating
Officer and placement arrangements within the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
4. Management, recruitment, policy and service development

policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation
and audit. These policy developments will impact upon the work of other professionals in MACUK
4.2 To advise the Clinical Lead and/or Clinical Director on those aspects of the work where
psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing
4.3 To be flexible, to share skills and knowledge and support colleagues. To participate in team
meetings, supervisions, performance reviews and training by being fully prepared, ready to share
and discuss ideas and offer solutions. To take personal responsibility for own ongoing
development and learning
5. Additional responsibilities
5.1 If you are employed in an area of work which requires membership of a professional body in order
to practice (e.g. Nursing & Midwifery Council for nurses), it is a condition precedent of your
employment to maintain membership of such a professional body. It is also your responsibility to
comply with the relevant body’s code of practice and professional conduct. Your manager will be
able to advise you on which, if any, professional body of which you must be a member.
5.2 As a professional, the post holder will abide by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating
to practice, maintaining the confidentiality of children, young people and their families/carers at
all times. He/she will maintain standards of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence, in
accordance with the relevant Codes of Professional Conduct and policies, including Terms &
Conditions of Employment and records of periodic registration.
5.3 To attend recommended and mandatory governance-related trainings including fire and health
and safety training, MAC-UK induction training, Trust inset training, safeguarding children and risk
management, and participate in clinical effectiveness activity.
5.4 To ensure the maintenance of professional standards in line with Trust policies and guidance from
the post holder’s relevant professional body.
5.5 To adhere to clinical and research governance guidelines, including keeping up to date and
accurate clinical records.
5.6 To adhere to MAC-UK policies regarding Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and other relevant
areas, and to comply with the Data Protection Act.

Professional qualification in a mental health profession: social work, occupational therapy,
