IHS Technology Education Department
The following rules are used as a guideline for all of the courses in the Technology Education Department. These rules
may be modified and/or amended for a specific course or as a department as necessary.




















Hats and coats should not be worn in the classroom or shop.
No electronic devices. (Student Handbook)
All students must come to class prepared.
Students may only work on the projects that have been assigned or approved by the instructor.
All students are required to be in the classroom on time and make the most of your available time. Lates will be in
accordance with the district late policy.
No student will be excused from class without a pass. Students must ask permission to use the pass and are responsible for
signing in and out.
Students are not permitted to leave the classroom/shop until the teacher dismisses them. The bell does not dismiss
students.
Strict adherence to all safety rules is required of all students. Students who violate safety rules may be issued up to three
formal warnings depending on the severity of the safety violation. Continued violations of the safety rules may result in any
of the following:
1. Teacher issued detention.
2. Referral to the office for additional consequences.
3. Alternative classroom assignments.
4. Removal from the class and receive a failing grade for the course at an administrator’s discretion.
All students will wear approved eye protection at all times while in the shop in accordance with state law.
Students will be assigned a specific pair of safety glasses at the beginning of the course. Each student will be responsible
for his/her pair of safety glasses. Any student found to destroy or otherwise render his/her pair of safety glasses unusable,
will pay the cost to replace his/her pair of safety glasses.
Safety tests must be passed with a grade of 100% before any student will be permitted to use a machine.
All students must have the permission from the instructor before operating any equipment.
Any accident must be reported to the teacher immediately, no matter how small.
All work will be submitted on the assigned due date and at the assigned time of day.
It is the student’s responsibility to make up any work that might be missed due to an absence.
All fellow students and teachers will be respected at all times. Intimidation, harassment, or threats of any type (ethnic,
racial, sexual, etc.) will not be tolerated and will be dealt with in accordance with school district policy.
Any student who defaces, vandalizes or destroys another person’s work, project, or property will be removed from the class
and receive a failing grade for the year at the building administrator’s discretion.
Any student involved in the theft of another student’s property, teacher’s property or school district property will be
removed from the class and fail for the year at the building administrator’s discretion.
All school district rules and policies will be followed and enforced.
The following methods of evaluation will be used:
1. Teacher evaluation of classroom participation.
2. Teacher evaluation of individual projects.
3. Teacher evaluation of home and class assignments.
4. Unit quizzes and tests.
5. The Seneca Valley School District grading policy will be used to determine each student’s grade.

Your child is enrolled in our Technology Education program and will have the opportunity to use various tools,
equipment, and materials. Appropriate instruction is given in the safe and proper operation of the various
tools, equipment, and materials used in our program, and close supervision is maintained at all times.
Although every precaution is taken to prevent accidents, a certain risk is involved due to the nature of the
experience, the age of the student and the learning environment. We are asking you to impress upon your
child the importance of being careful. We believe this will support the instruction that is given in school.
You are invited to visit out school and the Technology Education Department in order to see our program.
