Generic text structure
Spring’s Child Class Two’s Innovation
Main character is introduced who likes the
season/ weather and someone who
doesn’t like it. Explain the problem with the
weather/season.
Bella loves the Springtime; she loves nothing more than to pick the multicoloured flowers from her garden and the
surrounding fields and hedgerows. She spends hours, joyfully creating daisy chains and swimming in the crystal
clear waters of the river which flows next to her house. Grandpa on the other hand, hates Spring, he suffers from
hay fever and the blossoming flowers make him sneeze and his eyes water all day long. He hates the Spring
showers, which often go on too long and flood his garden causing the fruit and vegetables he grows to ruin, leaving
him and the whole family hungry.
Character meets a strange child/person
and they have fun together.
Bella was walking through a field of daisies when she came across a strange looking child who had lime green
coloured skin, daisy chains for hair and who was wearing what looked like a dress made from lush green moss.
They played together making the longest and most beautiful daisy chains, skipping through the swishy swashy grass
and swimming in the crystal waters of the river. The girl had never seen so many different types of fish nor swam
with the river dolphins which Bella often swam with.
A distant/strange voice is heard
That afternoon, there came a strange distant tinkling noise from the tops of the blossom trees.
The problems causes by weather/season
worsen, but the characters still meet to
have fun
The next day, the April showers began just as Grandpa had feared. Bella and her friend met once again and played
in the fields and river, not taking any notice of the river rising or the vegetable patch is becoming waterlogged.
Eventually the vegetable patch became so wet that the vegetables got washed away down the river which was now
raging.
Main character so worried they change
their mind about weather/season and wish
it would end. Tells the strange character.
Bella and the girl meet once again to play in the Spring showers, but Bella does so with a heavy heart. She sits
sadly, on a large stone on the edge of the river bank. The girls asks what is wrong with Bella and Bella explains that
her Grandpa is hungry because they have no vegetables to eat and all his hard work gardening has been ruined.
The strange character explains how they
are the cause of the weather and The main
character watches the strange character
leave
The lime green girls explains that she is Spring’s child and that it is her fault that the April showers are still pouring
down and that they will not stop until she disappears. She calls to her mother and Spring’s mother appears on a
flower covered thrown floating down the river, as comes closer, thousands of beautiful butterflies flutter towards
Spring’s child and carry her off in the wake of Spring’s flowery thrown. Bella watched on in astonishment as her
friend left. As she left, Bella said we’ll play again together, next year. Spring’s child replied, at the first sign of Spring!
Signs of the end of the weather are seen
In the morning, the river was calm once more and the warm summer sunshine began to dry the fields and garden.
