Dear Parents and Prospective RVCC Concurrent Enrollment Students:
Honors College Writing is a course for which students earn high school credit and also have the
opportunity to earn college credit. We are now ready to begin the registration process with
Raritan Valley Community College for students scheduled to take the course during the second
semester this school year.
To assist with this process, we will be holding an information/registration meeting on
Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Students and parents
are asked to attend this meeting to learn about the course and to complete the registration
process.
Please note that students must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in order to be eligible to earn
college credit for the course. If the GPA is below 3.0, an appeal (a letter of recommendation
from an English teacher) is necessary.
Also, if a student did not score 540 or higher in Critical Reading on the SAT (or 24 or higher in
English on the ACT), then the student will have to take the RVCC placement test at RVCC and
earn a score that qualifies him or her for the class. Information on how to take the placement test
is included in the packet.
We are asking that you bring the following completed items to the information/registration
meeting in order to register for the college credits:
1. Complete the online application. The steps for completing this online application can be
found in the Concurrent Enrollment Program brochure. Make sure that you apply as a
“High School Early Admit” student; that is the only way that the $25 application fee will
be waived. The CEEB code for Voorhees High School is 310433.
2. The Concurrent Enrollment Program Student/Parent Agreement form signed by your
guidance counselor. This form is found on the back of the Concurrent Enrollment
Program brochure.
3. The CEP Registration Form (the yellow paper inside the brochure); you only need to
complete the top portion and payment information, and then sign and date it; we will
complete the “Course Selections” information at the meeting.
4. The $175 payment for this course made payable to RVC College.

5. If applicable, a copy of the score report showing a score of 540 or higher in Critical
Reading on the SAT or 24 or higher in English on the ACT. Please make sure that the
student’s name is on the score report. If this is not included, then the student must take
the placement test and place into either English 111 or English 111 with workshop
recommended. Please note that students have to be in the RVCC system before taking the
placement test. Students will be in the system two business days after completing the
online application.
6. The completed Transcript Release Form. This form is required so that we can send your
transcript to RVCC verifying that you have at least a 3.0 GPA. Parents only need to fill
out the top and the name of the college, and then sign and date the form.
In addition to the student receiving paper copies of these forms, they are all available on the
Voorhees English department web page.
If you have to take the placement test at RVCC, remember to wait two business days after
completing the online admission. Also, bring a photo ID with you to the testing center. After
taking the placement test, please email or give me the results of the test so that I can update the
status of your application.
Please be aware that students will not be able to register for college credits once the class has
started. The deadline to turn in all completed registrations materials is Friday, January 15, 2016.
I will be happy to answer any questions you have about the registration process. You can contact
me through the email address or phone number found below. Thank you for your help in
registering for this great class!
Sincerely,
Richard Broan
