CHSP Research Grant Proposal Challenge 2014-2015
CRITERIA
Funding level 2014-2015: Up to ten (10) awards @$1500 upon submission by CHSP P.I. of a
major research grant proposal (defined as $100,000/year in total costs) in a college priority area
(see list).
Total funding available: Up to $15,000 available annually.
Budget: The total costs on the research grant proposal should be $100,000 per year reflecting
total costs (direct and indirect costs combined, and at least 50% of F & A must return to the
college. If eligible, an incentive award ($1500) will be transferred to the CHSP PI’s professional
development account to be used for research purposes (supplies, travel, etc.).
Purpose: Encourage submission of major ($100,000/year in total costs, i.e., direct and indirect
costs combined) extramural research grant proposals consistent with college priorities (see list).
P.I. eligibility: CHSP full-time Group I faculty members; pretenure or posttenure.
Limit: All unique (nonduplicative) proposals eligible; maximum two (2) annually for any
individual CHSP P.I. In order to be eligible in future years for this funding mechanism, any
CHSP faculty member who has received two (2) awards under this funding mechanism will be
expected to have received successful extramural funding.
Award period: Incentive funds will be loaded to CHSP PI’s account after the Associate Dean
for Research approves the LEO transmittal.
Due date: You may submit an application any time before June 30, 2015.
Deliverable: A major extramural research proposal ($100,000/year in total costs, i.e., direct and
indirect costs combined) with at least 50% F & A recovery to CHSP.
CHSP RESEARCH PRIORITY AREAS
Global health, e.g., global dimensions of disease; environmental impacts on health and wellness; family caregiving
across cultures; comparative health policy; tropical diseases; HIV/AIDS in cultural context.
Physiological conditions and disorders, e.g., diabetes; musculoskeletal conditions and treatment; neurological
disorders; congestive heart failure; disease, injury, and treatment across the lifespan.
Aging populations, e.g., mental health and emotional well-being; aging in place; family caregiving; injury, treatment,
and recovery; geriatric healthcare services; incidence of disease/epidemiology.
Health systems and supports, e.g., health leadership; clinical informatics; healthcare delivery systems; public
health programming.
Prevention and wellness, e.g., Impacts of conditioning and exercise; preventive health care; health promotion;
nutrition and food science; smoking cessation.
Rural and underserved populations, e.g., health disparities; environmental impacts on health; health and wellness
in at-risk youth; immigrant populations; youth and older adults as underserved populations; Appalachian
health issues.
