Oedipus Cycle Newspaper Project
Create a newspaper for the play(s). You MUST use ANTIGONE as your main source of information. You may use
Oedipus Rex and Oedipus at Colonus as extra. Follow the guidelines below to ensure that you get a good grade. This
newspaper should be accurate to the events that took place in the play(s). There should be NO fictitious add-ons.
This project will be graded as follows:
15 pts- Write an article summarizing the plot of ANTIGONE. (3 paragraphs required)
15 pts- Write an interview on ONE of the IMPORTANT characters. You MUST do it in interview format (like Q and A or
Interviewer and Character’s name). The character you choose can be a protagonist, like Antigone, or an antagonist, like
Creon. (100 word minimum required)
15 pts- Write an editorial giving YOUR OPINION of Antigone overall. (2 paragraphs required)
15 pts-Include 4 advertisements which would be relevant to the story. In other words, the ads should be culturally
relevant. There should NOT be ads for things such as iPods and Apple TV’s because that was not included in the play.
Use your imagination. Each ad should include some type of image. Images may be drawn or printed.
15 pts-Include a Travel and Tourism section. Here you can write about a place(s) in ancient Greece that one may
consider traveling to. Some examples include old amphitheaters (Theater of Dionysus), the Parthenon, Temple of
Olympian Zeus, Acropolis of Athens, Temple of Apollo, Olympia, etc… (1 paragraph & 1 picture required)
10 pts- Write two (2) obituaries for two characters who died in the play(s). In an obituary, you can find out about people
who passed on recently and why they were important to the community. When you would go to this section in a
newspaper, you can most likely find a picture about someone and a short biography. (2 obituaries required. 50 word
minimum on each)
15 pts- Write an alternate ending to the Antigone play. You must begin where the author left off. So, everyone that dies
in the play, still dies. You can take the story from there. (2 paragraphs required)
