SEASON SERIES: Somerset and Sugar Land went 10-10 against each other
this season.
PITCHING PERFECTION: Sugar Land (3.20 team ERA) and Somerset (3.62
team ERA) have the 1st and 2nd best ERA’s as a unit in the Atlantic League.
BEST YEAR EVER: Somerset amassed 90 wins which is the most wins in a
single season in Somerset history. In 2009 the team won 86 games which at the
time was the best ever. The 90 wins in a single season are good for the second
most wins all-time in the Atlantic League’s 16 year history.
PLAYOFF PARTY: The Patriots are in the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
HISTORIC HUNTON: Jon Hunton broke the single season Patriots saves
record this year (37). Previously R.D. Spiehs recorded 23 in 2007. The all-time
saves record in Atlantic League history is 40 by Mike Guilfoyle 2003 with BPT.
(748), walks drawn (515) and team batting average (.277)
their last at bat and 10 walk-off wins.
MLB EXPERIENCE: Seven players on the roster have at one point during their
baseball tenure suited up for an MLB team (Angel Sanchez, Fernando Hernandez,
Jim Hoey, Cedrick Bowers, Jeff Baisley, Cory Aldridge, Graham Taylor).
E-MART SWAG: Eddy Martinez-Esteve has been Somerset’s most clutch hitter.
He hits .388 with RISP and .436 with RISP and two outs.
FANTASTIC FOUR: The Somerset Patriots are 78-17 when they score four
runs or more but just 14-32 when they score three runs or fewer.
STRIVE FOR SIX: The Somerset Patriots are the most successful baseball club
in Atlantic League history winning League Championships in 2001, 2003, 2005,
2008, 2009. The Patriots look to win that elusive sixth title in program history this
year.
NEW REGIME: On November 27th Brett Jodie was promoted to Patriots skipper
as Sparky Lyle took on the role as manager emeritus. Lyle’s new role will involve
him being at all home games at TD Bank Ballpark as he serves as an ambassador
for the ball club. Shane Spencer is the new hitting coach. Spencer will also coach
3rd base. He won three World Series rings with the Yankees from 1998-2000. Cory
Domel takes over as pitching coach.
