CLASS TITLE: CORRECTIONAL SENTENCE SPECIALIST - SES
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is work involving (1) auditing of state commitments or interpretation of court orders in an
institution composed primarily of inmates with extended terms and/or cumulative sentences requiring
the application of multiple calculation formulas and legal provisions; or (2) administering all functions
involved in establishing the initial inmate data base record at a reception center; or (3) administering,
reviewing and auditing sentence data and authorizing the final discharge of inmates from custody.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Approves the final inmate discharge documents and instructs inmates as to the restoration of
their civil rights upon discharge.
Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of
manual and computer calculations of sentence data.
Implements department policies and procedures to ensure that confidentiality and
accountability of inmate records are maintained at all times.
Conducts periodic audits of sentence data calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with
court decisions, Florida Statutes and Department of Corrections rules and regulations.
Maintains and monitors the official institution inmate population count to ensure compliance
with federal court decisions and Florida Statutes.
Trains employees in the technical aspects of sentence structure and calculations.
Establishes and maintains an effective suspense system for all aspects of the inmate sentence
and release area.
Testifies, under subpoena, in state or federal courts as to the complexities of sentence
calculations or the contents of inmate records.
Evaluates institution and department policies and procedures governing inmate record
maintenance and makes recommendations for needed changes to ensure compliance with the
American Correctional Association Accreditation Standards.

Responds orally and in writing to inquiries from state and federal criminal justice agencies,
attorneys and the public regarding legal sentence data and general information on offenders.
Produces reports of inmate sentence data.
Conducts background investigations on prior commitments as required.
Conducts orientation sessions with new inmates to explain visiting and mailing regulations and
general information regarding sentence structure and release dates.
Determines status and confirms the custody of inmates released temporarily to law
enforcement agencies.
Supervises the work of other employees.
Performs related work as required.
