How to Make a Worm Bin Steps
1. Purchase two 8-10 gallon dark, plastic bins with lids.
2. Drill about 20 holes (using ¼” to 1/16”) on the bottom of each bin. On the
sides of both bins, drill about 10 holes. Drill holes in the top of one lid. Make
sure that the holes are evenly spaced, about 1 inch apart.
3. Shred newspaper into 1 inch strips. Put about 10 handfuls of newspaper in
each bin. This will be the bedding.
4. Spray the newspaper with a spray bottle full of water to make the newspaper
moist, but not soggy.
5. Sprinkle soil and maple leaves in the top bin.
6. Place cardboard completely over the newspaper, then moisten the
cardboard.
7. Add fruit and vegetable scraps.
8. Place the lid without holes right side up on the ground. Place 4 cups in each
corner of the lid, with the rims down. Place the bin with just the newspaper
on top of the cups without the lid.
9. Put 4 cups in each corner of the bin, place the other bin on top.
10. Add worms to the top bin, making sure that bedding is covering the worms.
11. Fasten the lid with holes on top of the bin.
12. Keep adding fruits and vegetable scraps. Make sure that the earthworm’s
habitat is healthy.
