What If We Lived Like This?
Part 7: Purity – The Sixth Step To Happiness
Key Scripture: Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)
Three Steps To Having A Pure Heart
1. The First Step To Having A Pure Heart Is: REMEMBERING That
God Sees Everything.
a. Nothing is SECRET from God and nothing is a surprise to
Him.
i. God knows everything about us. A lot of us think that
we are FOOLING God. That somehow God doesn’t
see everything that we have done – but He does.

Mark 4:22 (NKJV) “For there is nothing hidden
which will not be revealed, nor has anything been
kept secret but that it should come to light.”
ii. Everything that we think is hidden will be REVEALED
– everything that we think is secret will be exposed.
 If God already knows everything – and
everything is going to be revealed – we might
as well STRIVE to have a pure heart.
b. A pure in heart person is CONSCIOUS that God knows them
inside and out.
i. A pure in heart person is AWARE that God sees their
every move.
 The more MATURE you are the more
conscious you are that God is with you all the
time.
 An immature person acts like God isn’t
even there at all - while a mature
person focuses on PLEASING God.
 The desire of every Christian should be to
bring PLEASURE to God - That’s what it
means to have a pure heart.
2. The Second Step To Having A Pure Heart Is: REVIEWING Our
Motives.
a. We need to do an HONEST evaluation of why we do what we
do - We should check our motives.
i. Proverbs 16:2 (HCSB) “All a man’s ways seem right in
his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the motives.”
 We should constantly keep CHECK of our
motives.
Three Areas To Test Ourselves.
1. We need to check the motive in our GIVING - when we give
something what is the motive behind our giving?
a. Are we giving in order to get something in RETURN?
Are we giving to be noticed by other people?
i. Matthew 6:2 (HCSB)
2. We also need to check the motives in our PRAYING - ask
yourself – am I talking to God or am I talking so that others
can hear me?
a. Matthew 6:5 (HCSB) “Whenever you pray, you must not
be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing
in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by
people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward!”
3. We also need to check why we do what we do in SERVING.
a. We are to serve the Lord and we are to serve Him
with GLADNESS.
i. Psalms (NKJV) 100:2 - “Serve the Lord with
gladness; Come before His presence with
singing.”
3. The Third Step To Having A Pure Heart Is: REALIGNING Our
Priorities.
How Do We Know If We Are Making Him First In Our life? Here Are
Three Tests:
1. We Need To Look At Our ACTIVITIES.
a. Wherever we put our time and money is what we feel is a
PRIORITY in our life.
i. If we want to have a pure heart we need to
DETERMINE where our hearts are.
 Matthew 6:21 (HCSB) “For where your treasure
is, there your heart will be also.”
 Where we spend our money and our
time shows where our HEARTS Are.
2. We Need To Look At Our ANXIETIES.
a. What do we WORRY about most? Do we worry about,
finances, food, fitness, fashion, or the future?
i. If we’re worrying about any of these things, it means
that God is not NUMBER one in our life.

Matthew 6:25(HCSB)
3. We Need To Look At Our AMBITIONS.
a. The problem with many Christians is that we have the same
ambitions – the same GOALS – as our non-Christian friends.
i. Happiness comes from walking in the PRESENCE of
God.
