JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
Post Office and Centre Assistant (2 x 16 hour posts)
REPORTING TO:
Centre Manager
JOB PURPOSE:
To support the Centre Manager in carrying out day to day tasks in relation to
Post Office duties.
SALARY:
£6.70 per hour (16 hours per week) plus a staff bonus scheme.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:










Keep money drawers in order, and record and balance daily transactions.
Cash up & reconcile end of day cash.
Weigh letters and parcels; compute mailing costs based on type, weight, and destination; and affix
correct postage.
Obtain signatures from recipients of registered or special delivery mail.
Register, certify, and insure letters and parcels.
Sell and collect payment for products such as stamps, prepaid mail envelopes, and money orders.
Check mail in order to ensure correct postage and that packages and letters are in proper
condition for mailing.
Answer questions regarding mail regulations and procedures, postage rates, and post office
boxes.
Complete forms regarding changes of address, or theft or loss of mail, or for special services such
as registered or priority mail.
Cash money orders and stock ordering.
Reception & Administration:






To act as an ambassador and promote the business at every opportunity.
Greet and welcome visitors to the Centre, ensuring they sign in the visitor’s book and informing the
relevant member of staff or tenant of their arrival.
Check and sign for deliveries, before informing the relevant member of staff or tenant of their
arrival.
Book meetings and maintain the Centre diary
To provide information wherever possible on Centre activities to members of the public either by
telephone or email.
To sort and distribute incoming mail and co-ordinate mailings to users and providers as required.
General:

Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Centre.

Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third
parties.
Notify the Centre Manager as soon as possible of your inability to report to duty, and also on your
return to work from all periods of absence.
Ensure the security of the Centre is maintained at all times.
Adhere to all Company policies and procedures.
Participate in staff meetings as required.
Attend mandatory training days, on or off site, as and when required.
Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you. Must have the ability to work
flexible hours to suit the needs of the centre.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL SKILLS:









Good communication skills with a range of customers, partners and staff.
Good timekeeping and organisational skills.
Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Understanding of relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks (e.g. H&S).
Good numeracy and literacy skills.
Must be reliable.
Good attention to detail.
Committed to ongoing professional development.
