Town of Gypsum Recognized as 2015 Playful City USA Community
241 communities exhibiting Playability to be recognized as part of 2015 Playful City USA Program
Town of Gypsum (June 17, 2015) – Gypsum, CO is being honored with a 2015 Playful City USA designation for the 4th
time. In partnership with the Humana Foundation, KaBOOM! is honoring cities, towns and counties across the country for
making their communities more playable.
The town of Gypsum has in place many opportunities to promote play. With over 18 municipal parks, BLM access within
our town limits, stocked fishing ponds, a municipal gun range and golf course, and a skate park there are plenty of places
for kids to get out and enjoy all that our mountain community has to offer. In 2014 Gypsum added another playground
installation in the Buckhorn subdivision in partnership with the neighborhood homeowners association. And in the near
future, Gypsum has a 19 acre parcel of land that had been planned for a recreational center inclusive of a baseball field,
landscaped promenade, community pavilion, fresh water play area, playground, pickle ball courts, dog park and much
more.
In addition to our playful built environments, Gypsum is a community that offers free community event year round. Our
signature event, Gypsum Daze draws over 10,000 people to our Town Center for family fun and a national talent country
concert. This year we will be featuring Big & Rich with Special Guests Jana Kramer and Cowboy Troy.
Hopscotch sidewalks, structured recess programs, mandated neighborhood play spaces, city-wide play days and mobile
recreation vehicles are all ways in which these communities are appealing to residents, and attracting and retaining
residents.
“Playability is crucial to the success of our future communities, and we are proud of the work these cities and leaders are
doing to provide a better quality of life for all residents, and especially families,” says KaBOOM! President, James Siegal.
“Play provides a competitive advantage for cities looking to attract and retain residents. With these esteemed leaders, and
our friends and partners across the country, we continue to prioritize play for all kids.”
