North Oregon Coast Birdathon
April 11, 2015 (7:00am to 7:00pm)
Instructions
Each Team should have a bird checklist, instructions, map to the brunch and a pledge form (or two for each team
member)
Start scouting as early as possible and report on any rarities or good birding areas you find: it is important for all teams
to share this information BEFORE the Big Day – the more birds each team sees, the more pledge money raised . It is up
to each team individually whether or not it wants to give/receive birding tips DURING the Big Day. Each team decides its
own itinerary as long as it stays within the boundaries of Clatsop County.
Pledges: be sure to fill in the top of the pledge sheet; ask if you’re unsure of your teams estimated species total. Special
prize is given to the individual (not team) who secures the greatest amount of pledges.
Celebration Brunch: The Potluck Brunch will be held at Seaside Library Community room Sunday April 13th at 9:30am.
Each team’s species list and pledge sheets should be completed. Any participation fees will be collected at that time.
Prizes will be awarded. Please bring your pictures from Saturday to share on a slide show either from your camera, jump
drive or DVD . Everyone is welcome to attend the brunch, whether or not they were on a Birdathon team
To be considered for the Grand Prize, pledges should be collected and sent to Susan Boac, 1195 Avenue F, Seaside,
OR 97138 no later May 1, 2015

PARTICIPATION RULES
The Birdathon should be a fun event whereby participants of all ages and abilities can enjoy watching
and listening to the birds. However, the Birdathon is also an important fund raising event to help
support the Wildlife Center of the North Coast. With this in mind, the following participation rules
have been established to ensure a fun and fair event. All team leaders should inform each team
member of the rules. Thank you for your support and cooperation!
General Rules:
• To be an “official” participant in the birdathon, each person must solicit at least $30 worth of
pledges or contribute a $30 participation fee, or a combination thereof.
• An official team is one for which all members are official participants. Only official team
members are qualified to win prizes.
• An entire team may consist of unofficial participants, and they are welcome to participate in the
day’s events and the celebration ceremony; however, they are ineligible to win a prize.
• If two or more people are on a team, in order to count a new species, the species must be
heard or seen by at least two people.
• Team members must remain within sight and hearing distance of each other to count a new
bird species to the list. Meaning team members should not be dropped off along a road or
trail while other team members drive or walk ahead to search another area, even if they are in
sight of one another.
• The use of playbacks should be avoided. Enjoy the birds you find with your eyes and ears!
• If no team participant can attend the celebration ceremony, the team leader needs to submit their bird list by
email no later than 6:00am on Sunday April 12th to SeasideSusan@gmail.com to qualify for a prize.
• Each individual should solicit the necessary pledges and/or contribute their participation fee no
later than the day of the brunch. Pledges made in good faith will suffice to qualify a
participant, even if the sponsors fail to fulfill their pledges later.
• Remember to have fun and enjoy time spent watching the birds!
Clatsop County Big Day:
• All species must be found within Clatsop County. Document locations of rarities to share with
folks at the celebration ceremony.
• Please bring your digital pictures from the Birdathon to share a slideshow of the images at the celebration brunch.
Please bring in a jump drive, DVD or straight from your camera.
Grand Prize Awarded for Most $$ Raised:
The prize for Most $$ Raised will be awarded to the individual who raises the most money for
Wildlife Center. The prize will be awarded on May 5th, so get your pledges in fast!
•Tally up the most species in one or more of these subcategory groups for an extra prize!
1. Waterfowl
2. Raptors – including Falcons and Owls
3. Sparrows
