 September – October 2014 – Begin Fluency Assessments
(Experienced MITs)
o To analyze student fluency, MITs will administer 3 of the 8 Fluency Assessments currently
available and record student scores online. Currently, there are 5 assessment levels for
Addition and Subtraction, 1 assessment level for Multiplication and Division, and 2 assessment
levels for Fractions. Choose at least 1 student for each assessment level chosen. Interviews
are conducted once every two weeks for a total of 18 weeks. Signed parental consents are
needed for interviewed students. The students should remain constant throughout the 18 week
period, so that progress can be reviewed. If a student leaves the school or is absent for an
extended period of time, and there are no additional students being administered the level of
assessment you were using with the student, an additional student should be added to fulfill the
requirement of nine administrations per chosen level.
o Instructions on how to conduct a Fluency Assessment and a link to the online interface can be

Present at a state conference
MITs share ways to develop numeracy that
work with intervention students and in the
regular classroom.
