EYFS Classroom Teacher and Subject Coordinator

Job Purpose
In addition to the requirements of a class teacher and any other agreed responsibilities
To be accountable for your subject area’s aspect of the school’s work and to support, hold
accountable, develop and facilitate the development of teaching of your subject area throughout the
whole school by fostering collaborative working.
Areas of responsibility and key tasks:
Strategic direction and development of your subject area (with the support of and under the
direction of the Head Teacher and Leadership Team)

Develop and implement policies and practices which reflect the schools commitment to high
achievement for all pupils through effective teaching and learning;

Develop plans for your class and or subject area which identify clear targets, timescales and
success criteria for its development and/or maintenance in line with the school development
plan;

Monitor progress and evaluate the effects on teaching and learning by working alongside
colleagues and partnership agencies, analysing work and outcomes and implementing new
initiatives.

Provide clear feedback and accurate written executive summaries which measure impact
and clearly inform school self-evaluation.
Teaching and Learning

Ensure continuity and progression in your subject area by supporting colleagues in choosing
the appropriate sequence of teaching and teaching methods and setting clear learning
objectives and accurate success criteria, through an agreed scheme of work, developed in
line with the school development plan;

Evaluate the teaching in your subject area by the monitoring of teacher’s plans and through
work analysis, identify effective practice and areas for improvement and take appropriate
action to improve further the quality of teaching and learning.

Job Description
Planning, Teaching and Class Management
Teach allocated pupils by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning
through:

Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught
and assessed and how they will address the EYFS curriculum and individual
needs of the child.

Setting tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest;

Setting appropriate and demanding expectations;

Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment including therapy plans and
interventions.

Providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge;

Making effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of EYFS curriculum;

Ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time;

Maintaining discipline in accordance with the school's procedures and encouraging
good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and
homework;

Using a variety of teaching methods to match approach to content, structure
information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary which reflect
the individual needs and developmental of the learner.

Use effective, communication, feedback and questioning, listen carefully to pupils,
give attention to errors and misconceptions

Select appropriate learning resources and promote independence and develop
study skills through library, I.C.T. and other sources;

Ensuring pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding
appropriate to the subject / area taught;

Reflecting on own teaching critically to improve effectiveness;

Ensuring the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support, taking
account of pupils' needs by providing structured learning opportunities which
develop the areas of learning identified in national and local EYFS policies.

Encouraging pupils to think and talk about their learning, develop self-control
and independence, concentrate and persevere, and listen attentively, using a
variety of teaching strategies which focus upon the characteristics of effective
learning which involve planned adult intervention, first-hand experience and play
and talk as a vehicle for learning.

Job Description
Leading and Managing Staff

Enable all teachers to achieve expertise in planning for and teaching your subject area
through example, support and by leading or providing high quality professional development
opportunities;

Demonstrate an excellent ability to advise and support other teachers;

Provide clear feedback , good support and sound advice to others;

Provide examples, coaching and training to help others become more effective in their
teaching.

Help others to evaluate the impact of their teaching on raising pupils’ achievement.

Contribute to support the Appraisal of all teachers in your subject area where appropriate.

Ensure that the Head Teacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors are well informed
about policies, plans, priorities and targets for your subject area and that these are properly
incorporated into the school development plan.

Undertake the main professional duties of a teacher as set out in the Schools pay and
conditions of service document.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting

Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve
specific aspects of teaching;

Mark and monitor pupils' work and set targets for progress including curricular or
individual targets;

Assess and record pupils' progress systematically and keep records to check work is
understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and
recognise the level at which the pupil is achieving;

Undertake statutory assessment of pupils as required;

Prepare and present informative reports to parents and other stakeholders including
AR1s and Pupil Progress Reports
Curriculum Development

Have lead responsibility for a subject or aspect of the school's work and develop action
and development plans which identify clear targets, milestones and success criteria
including accurate analysis of whole school data.

Complete Executive Summary Reports measuring and evaluating impact of interventions
and learning within the subject area.
Contribute to the whole school's planning activities
Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from a manager to undertake
work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description and may reasonably be expected to
undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility that may be allocated from time to
time.
This post is subject to the current conditions of employment for Class Teachers contained in the
School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document, the 1998 School Standards and Framework Act,
the required standards for Qualified Teacher Status and Class Teachers and other current
legislation. This job description should be read in conjunction with 'Clarification notes on the
exercise of professional duties for all teachers, other than head teachers' contained at Appendix
A. and contained within Parts XI and XII of the School Teachers’ Pay & Conditions Document.
