Module Aims:
To introduce 4th Arts Philosophy and part-time students for the evening degree to
contemporary philosophical thinking on issues including the nature of philosophy as
the analysis of language, human relationships, ethics as primary philosophy, some
contemporary views on truth,, modernity, individualism, freedom and authority,
secularization and the role of religion in today’s world. The views of such philosophers
as Wittgenstein, Martin Buber, Hannah Arendt, Levinas, Mary Midgley, Charles Taylor
and others will be addressed.
