No:34 Week ending 12/6/15
Dear Parents/Carers, Children, Staff and Governors,
I hope that you have been enjoying our annual ‘Walk to School’ week. I know that lots of children
have said that they have made a special effort to walk/bike/scoot to school and others have told me
that they have taken the bus and even train! Thank you very much for your support! Children will
receive a special badge to celebrate this week today J
As part of our special week, all classes have had additional road safety input: they are well versed in
STOP, LOOK, LISTEN AND THINK before crossing roads; that they must only cross a road with an
adult and that they must walk across zebra and pelican crossing and NOT cycle/scoot. I kindly ask that
you reinforce these messages with words and actions.
On behalf of Eco Team, I took photos of the congestion on Normansfield Avenue. Sadly, again we
have parents who are choosing to park on the zig-zag lines which is both dangerous and illegal.
However, those who saw me with the ipad quickly seemed to move. Maybe it’s time to put photos of
illegally parked vehicle in the newsletter..! It would be tragic if we had a road traffic accident.
Have a great weekend and be safe!
Warmest wishes,
Heidi Johnson Paul
Staffing
It is with sadness that I am writing to inform you that Miss English is moving on to pastures new. She
has gained a promotion as a Senior Early Years Practitioner; this role will entail training staff to
effectively work with early years children and I know that Vicky will do this very well. Miss English’s last
day will be Friday 19 June. She will of course be preparing children for this change.
Miss English has brought a vitality to the Nursery environment as well as her skill and expertise as an
early years practitioner. She has made a really positive contribution to our school and will be greatly
missed. We wish her well for the future.
In the week beginning Monday 15 June, Mrs Zoe Tomkins will be joining us as the new Nursery
Assistant. Experienced and well qualified, she will bring with her expertise working in Early Years.
Miss English will be doing several handover sessions with Mrs Tomkins during this week; please do
pop along and say hello on either Wednesday or Thursday. Mrs Tomkins will be taking on her full time
role as of Monday 29 June and I trust that the handover between the staff will support a smooth
transition.
I am sure Miss English will be available to chat with you and I am sure that you will make Mrs Tomkins
feels very welcome as she joins our team.
Nursery/Newts Gate
The gate at the end of the Nursery pathway onto Normansfield Avenue will be open for drop off and
pick up times for Newts and Nursery. The office staff kindly asked that you do not use the buzzer but
wait for a member of staff to open the gates. Other than that it will be locked. If you are late for
Nursery, please still come around to the main school office for entry.
Nursery Graduation Ceremony
What delightful ceremonies performed by morning and afternoon Attenborough Nursery Classes! We
were treated to a collection of songs from the topics they have enjoyed this year as well as lots of
lovely smiles, confidence and good cheer. They were given their special Nursery books which
celebrate the work that they have done during their year. Both classes are ready for Reception! Many
thanks to the Nursery children and to the Nursery staff team J
Donaldson Class Assembly…with a great, big enormous turnip!
Well done Donaldson class, what a jolly assembly full of delightful, cheerful singing as you recounted
this well-known traditional tale. It was lovely to see the children looking so happy and confident. Well
done J Lovely to see all of the families, too. Thanks all.
Twickenham Carnival – Sunday 14 June
Each year Twickenham comes to life with the sights and sounds of Carnival in a free summer

of Orleans House Gallery in an explosion of music, dance and spectacular costume. Celebrations then
continue throughout the afternoon with a variety of live performance, games, arts activities, food from

Take One Picture: Art in the Wilderness
Many thanks to the huge number of people who came to see the National Gallery project work we
carried out based on the painting of Mr and Mrs Andrews by Gainsborough. The Wilderness was filled
with clay and mod-roc dogs (Reception children), close observation art work of babies by Nursery,
trees in the style of David Hockney’s art work along with cross curricular investigations (Year 1) and
mood boards with collage figures and up-cycled footwear by Year 2. The work looked stunning and I
am so pleased that the event was well-supported…and that the weather was so delightful! Many
thanks to all of the staff for their input and especially to Mrs Branston and Mrs McNaughton for
installing the works of art 
