Language Arts:
5th- Unit: Opinion Writing-We will be learning the
parts of a good opinion piece
6th-Unit: Writing and Supporting Arguments-What
makes a good argument-How to support your
writing.
Reading:
5th –We will continue reading "The
Apprentice". Students will be drawing inferences
and comparing/contrasting characters.
Dear 5th & 6th Grade Families
We would like to invite you to our
Veteran’s Day assembly on Wednesday,
November 11, 2015. We will gather in the Gym
beginning at 7:45 until approximately 8:15, to
honor those who served and currently serving
our Country. A few of our winners for the
VFW essay contest will read their essay. The
choir will sing the National Anthem. Please
join us and if you have a family member who
served or currently serves our country please
bring them along so that we may honor them
for their service.
NEW ADDITION TO OUR TEAM
I would like to take a minute to introduce
myself. Many of you may know me, but for
those who don’t, my name is Christy Drury. I
will be working with your student in Reading. I
am excited to work with you and your students
to make this a successful year.
**Students will have nightly reading
homework. I am asking that students read at
least 20 minutes per night.
5th Grade: You will have a Reading Tic-TacToe board to complete.
6th Grade: You will have a Reading Log Page to
complete

6th-We will be starting a short story "The Bracelet".
The Bracelet is a fictional short story that takes
place during the start of WWII. In the story we will
be reading from the point of view of a Japanese
American. Students will be watching short video
clips from Pearl Harbor to help build background
knowledge.

5th Unit Topics: The Standard Algorithm for
Multi-Digit Whole Number Multiplication
6th Unit Topics:
Division of Fractions
Science:
5th –Continuing the unit on Space the solar system
6th –Working on stars and constellations
Social Studies:
5th-We will be wrapping up our unit on Native
Americans and taking our end of the unit
summative assessment on Friday.
6th-Continuing with thematic maps to investigate
why people live where they do in North
America. There is a summative assessment on the
thirteen territories and provinces of Canada on
Friday.
