JD REGISTRATION REGULATIONS/GUIDELINES
1. JD Full-time Students









have registration priority for §§ 01 through 04 courses;
may register for 12 to 16 credits per semester;
may hold up to 18 credits until the end of Add/Drop; (NOTE: JD students are not permitted
to take 18 credits or more and may only take 17 credits with permission of an academic
advisor or the Registrar.);
may take any number of non-cross-listed LLM courses (i.e., courses that have a LAWG but no
LAWJ section) on a seat-available basis (LLM students have first priority);
may take up to 6 credits of Graduate School courses on the Main Campus (provided
approval has been obtained);
may take 7 credits pass/fail and only exercise the option in one course per semester (see the
2014-2015 Student Handbook and http://www.law.georgetown.edu/campusservices/registrar/course-registration/Registration-Information.cfm for more information);
may add themselves to an unlimited number of waitlists;
may register for any needed first-year courses by sending an e-mail request to the
Registrar’s Office at lawreg@law.georgetown.edu; and
may drop a course from his/her schedule by the end of the Add/Drop period without a
transcript notation. After the end of the Add/Drop period, requests to withdraw from a
course must be approved by an academic advisor and are subject to a number of limitations
(including, that students may not withdraw from a course after work has been submitted for

information. Withdrawals are subject to the Tuition Refund Schedule.
2. JD Part-time Students








have registration priority for §§ 07, 17, 27 & 97 courses;
may register for 8 to 12 credits per semester;
may take any number of non-cross-listed LLM courses (i.e., courses that have a LAWG but no
LAWJ section) on a seat-available basis (LLM students have first priority);
may take up to 6 credits of Graduate School courses on the Main Campus (provided
approval has been obtained);
may take 7 credits pass/fail and only exercise the option in one course per semester (see the

3. Second-Year Part-time Students



must take the evening section of Criminal Justice in Fall 2015. Students will be enrolled in
the Fall 2015 course automatically by the Registrar’s Office. We recognize that some parttime 2Es may want to take Corporations in the evening in Fall 2015. Because Corporations
and Criminal Justice are in time conflict (both meet on Wednesday evenings), if you wish to
seek a waiver in Fall 2015 in order to take Criminal Justice in a future semester, please email
your request to the Registrar’s Office by 5 p.m. on June 1, 2015.
must take the evening section of Property in Spring 2016. Students will be enrolled in the
Spring 2016 course automatically by the Registrar’s Office.
must complete a “first-year” elective in one of their upperclass years. Courses meeting the
first-year elective are found on http://www.law.georgetown.edu/campusservices/registrar/course-registration/Registration-Information.cfm.
