**JOIN US**
Have you ever wondered what the Social Concerns office/workroom looked like? Want to know
what is going on in Social Concerns? Want to share some ideas? Want to find out how you can help us out? If so,
please join us for a Social Concerns Ministry Sharing Session on Tuesday, April 29th at 7pm in the Social Concerns
Workroom. Come meet the SCM staff, hear about some of many ministries, learn what activities we’ll have available
over the summer and help guide this ministry serving those in need throughout our parish & community. If you would
kindly RSVP (yesses only) so we’ll know how many chairs to set up, we would appreciate it.
**STILL NEEDED**
Needed for a parish family: New or very gently used, size 10-12 girls
clothing. Currently, due to very limited space, this is the only clothing that we are collecting. If you have
other clothing that you would like to donate, I encourage you to drop it off at the PennyWise Donation
Center, 4737 Hwy 6, Missouri City, TX 77459 between the Star Cinema Grill and Starbuck’s. Donations can
be dropped in the rolling bin in the church narthex, at the Social Concerns office or the parish office.
**NEW**
Help us fill our BLESSING BAGS for CANCER patients undergoing chemo by donating the following new
items: puzzle books (Sodoku, crossword, word search, etc.), lip balm, journals/note pads, playing cards, thank
you notes, & recent magazines (last 2 months) We are trying to provide 50+ bags per month to 2 local cancer
treatment facilities (MD Anderson & Memorial Hermann SW). Donations can be dropped in the rolling bin in the church
narthex, at the Social Concerns office or the parish office.
Thank you to Cub Scout Pack 1828 for helping us by packing approximately 200 Homeless Hope
Bags on April 1st!
Thank you to all of the volunteers that worked so hard on the Catholic Charities Mamie George
Community Center garden on March 29th. Soon the pantry will have fresh veggies for distribution to those in need!
Thank you to the Cancer Support Group for providing the supplies and packing approximately 50 Blessing Bags for
cancer patients.
Thank you to all of the volunteers that work so hard on all of our ministries. We could not do it without you!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Fort Bend Cares Doggone Fun Run is in need of student/teen volunteers 7:30-10:30, Saturday, April 12 to work the
water station. Visit www.fortbendcares.org & click on “Fun Run Details” to volunteer.
WHAT WE’RE COLLECTING:
Donations can be dropped in the Social Concerns or parish offices or in the SCM collection bin
(large skirted bin) in the church narthex, behind the hospitality desk.
Below is a sampling of the items we are currently collecting.
Have fabric lying around? If so, we are collecting fabric (1/2 yard or more) to make
Blessing Bags for various ministries, including the military, homeless, cancer patients, children, & more! We are also
collecting FLEECE fabric (1 yard or more) to make no sew blankets for the Nighttime Cuddle Kits for kids in homeless
shelters.
Help the homeless, vets & their families by donating mini/trial sizes of shampoo,
soap, lotion, toothpaste,
toothbrush, etc.
Do you sew, knit or crochet? If so, the Cancer Center at Memorial Hermann Southwest has requested lap blankets,
scarves & caps to be included in our Blessing Bags for cancer patients. The bulk of their patients are adults, so we are
not currently collecting these items for children. For more information, contact Deb at dhernandez@stlaurence.org
