The RSAC Scottish Rally
The RSAC Scottish rally has finally been and gone, the great expectations were met and exceeded
and yet again the event has shown the rally world that it will always be the best rally in Scotland. The
Dumfries based rally ran smoothly and provided a challenge for all drivers. Blair Brown, Kinross shire
teenager, who is the youngest person to be awarded the RSAC New Talent Scholarship had a very
busy weekend, as being one of their two scholarship drivers
The pre event media stage, took place on Friday morning. The RSAC provided Blair with free entry to
the stage, this allowed him to set his car up to its optimal standard for the event and also benefit
Blair with some extra practice. The stage, set outside Moffat was a testing experience for Blair, as
wet and very slippy conditions made the day another new learning curve.
‘The media stage was invaluable for our Scottish Rally experience, the stage allowed me to get back
into the car and make sure there were no final issues yet to be found.’
Early Saturday morning saw the start of the main event. As the young driver from Kinross shire set
out with his main goal, a finish, this set to him by David Bogie who Blair took part in an interview
with the previous afternoon on Radio Scotland, where the highly experienced Scottish and British
Rally champion gave advice to the youngster.
Blair reached the end of the first stage, concerned with his driving. He quoted
‘ I’m not getting into the movement of the car, the stage only being six miles did not help, but
hopefully the next 13 miler will allow me to settle into the car’
The RSAC Scholar set a much better time through the second special stage and progressed further
throughout the day until second service.
‘ We are now going well, I can’t wait for this last stage, the car is driving great and the Scottish has
certainly lived up to its expectations so far.’
The last stage was certainly the youthful drivers best. After setting his best time of the day and
having a very entertaining last few corners in front of the spectators the scholar was delighted with
what he had achieved. Blair said ‘The Scottish rally gave me a whole new experience, I am very
happy with 5th in class and what I learned today’
Blair would like to say a massive thanks to the whole RSAC Scottish rally team for such a fantastic
event. He would also like to thank his main sponsor QTS Group who provided there great services for
the event.
Blair will next be out at the Nicky Grist stages in Wales in two weeks time.
