RESEARCH PROJECT OFFICER (Part-time)

Adverse Immune Signatures and their Prevention in Corneal Transplantation (VISICORT)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a part-time, fixed-term position as a

Research Project Officer with the Regenerative Medicine Institute, School of Medicine at the

National University of Ireland, Galway.

This position is funded by European Community Collaborative Project, VISICORT, under call FP7-

Health-2013.1.3-2: Innovative approaches to address adverse immune reactions to biomedical devices, implants and transplant tissues , and is available immediately for an initial 12 month period with an opportunity to extend to a maximum of 3 years.

VISICORT is an EU-based multidisciplinary project which will create a new level of understanding of adverse immune responses to tissue transplants by extensively studying corneal transplantation and will apply this knowledge to improve clinical outcomes. By integrating the research activities of leading academic and industrial partners, VISICORT will generate novel diagnostic and prognostic tests for adverse immune responses in transplant recipients and develop an innovative strategy for preventing adverse immune response to corneal transplants by administration of immunomodulatory stromal stem cells.

The Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) was established in 2004 and is recognized as the leading stem cell research institute in Ireland. Over 150 researchers work to translate basic research findings to clinical applications specifically in the areas of orthopaedics, vascular biology and transplantation.

Job Description: The successful candidate will play a central role in the delivery of the project’s integrated scientific objectives under the supervision of the NUI Galway-based coordinator.

Duties:

Monitor overall progress of the VISICORT research programme towards targeted milestones and deliverables.

Provide input into the scientific strategies the verification and the interpretation of experimental data for the VISICORT project at NUI Galway.

Assist in the supervision, mentoring and technical training of junior researchers associated with the VISICORT project at NUI Galway.

Ensure research programme requirements in terms of documentation of the project activities, milestones, etc. are implemented and adhered to.

Assist in the dissemination of research outputs/activities, including identification of the appropriate pathway for dissemination and providing support for preparation of manuscripts and presentations

Lead on the preparation and delivery of periodic scientific reports for the Scientific Advisory

Boards and funding agency, as required.

Perform financial management of the NUI Galway VISICORT project activities.

Liaise with the funding agency and ensure that guidelines/recommendations are put into effect.

Manage relationships with academic and industry partner representatives.

Liaise with administrative representatives of partner institutions.

Liaise with the NUI Galway TTO representative on the identification of and protection of intellectual property generated.

Represent the research activities of the VISICORT project and its NUI Galway-based team as required at local, national and international events (including talks, panel discussions, meetings with funding agencies, industry representatives etc.).

Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a scientific discipline. Other essential requirements will be: Prior experience with EU or other multi-national collaborative project management; strong communication and coordination skills; prior experience with research budget management and demonstrable ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Salary : €37,750 - €52,561 per annum, pro-rata for this part-time post
