Eligibility Requirements and Application Form
ELIGIBILITY IS CONTINGENT UPON THE APPLICANT:
Being a senior and an active member of PASF
Planning to take a Spanish or Portuguese language course in the Fall/ Spring Semester of your
freshman year in college
2. Possessing at least a B average in all high school subjects
3. Having completed one or more years of Spanish or Portuguese in high school
4. Having attended at least one PASF Convention
5. Sending a completed application form and the following:
3 copies of the completed application form (4 total)
An original high school transcript--3 copies (4 total)
Original letters of recommendation (one from a Spanish teacher and the other two from
other teachers) and 3 copies of each (4 total) on school letterhead.
6. Organizing the forms into 4 packets.
7. Mailing completed application by the deadline postmarked no later than the published deadline
on the calendar of events.
NOTE: Selected applicants are required to appear before the Scholarship Committee at Convention
for an interview. The purpose of the appearance is to elaborate upon information given on this form.
NOTE: Recipients of the MLT Scholarship will not receive their checks until after successfully
completing the Spanish and/or Portuguese course with an A or B average and submitting proper
documentation.
NOTE: The actual transmittal of scholarship funds shall be contingent upon the applicant’s meeting
all entrance requirements at the college or university selected. The applicant shall arrange for the
college or university to which he/she is accepted to send a notice of acceptance to the Scholarship
Director and to the Secretary/Financial Director of PASF. Recipient will submit an official transcript of
his/her university work to the Scholarship Director and to the Secretary/Financial Director of PASF at
the end of each semester in which a portion of the scholarship is received. Failure to complete a
Spanish or Latin American related course with the equivalent of a B or better in each semester in
which a portion of the scholarship was received will nullify the remaining part of the scholarship.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Applicant's interest in and contributions to PASF, merit, and career goals
2. Applicant's financial need
3. Applicant's academic standing
4. Applicant's contribution to school and community
5. Applicant's interest in the Spanish and/or Portuguese languages as evidenced by the
number of years of language study and plans for further study.
No more than ten applicants will be chosen on the basis of the above criteria to appear at the
scholarship interviews during Convention. All finalists must be interviewed. All interviews will be
conducted in Spanish. Please see Article XII of the PASF Bylaws for further information.
