MEMBERS FORUM – WA BRANCH, AHAA
In an effort to better understand the expectations of our Members, we plan to have a
Members’ Forum in July. The Forum will be held at The State Equestrian Centre, Cathedral
Ave, Brigadoon at 1.00 pm – 4.30 pm on Saturday 20th July. An independent Mediator will
co-ordinate & direct discussions.
One of the difficulties with a Breed Society such as the AHAA is the diversity of interests &
expectations of our Members. The principle purpose of a Breed Society is the keeping of
Stud Books & the promotion of the Breed. The AHAA holds Championship Shows in each
State & the annual National Show on a rotational basis. There is a set program of events,
with the option for additional events as desired. We would like to make our Shows more
relevant to Members by including classes which may reflect their interests.
Another initiative of the AHAA is to promote the Andalusian Breed & this is enhanced with a
more ‘professional’ and representative image of our Breed. The Dress Standards, as
published on the AHAA website makes suggestions for the Three Options of gear for horses
& Attire for Handlers. In recent years many Members do not keeping to these suggested
Standards & while there is space for individuality, there has been a small, but increasing
number of handlers in attire more appropriate to other breeds of horses & ponies.
