Principal’s Corner
Week of June 9, 2014
SLE of the Week: St. Euphrasia graduates are Catholic,
Responsible, Academic, Culturally Aware and Physically Confident
Learners.
June Theme: We Remember, We Celebrate, We Believe –
Live and lead, walking with love.
Dear Parents,
This week, the 2013-14 year comes to a close. It has been a busy
and eventful year! We ended last week with the graduation of the Class of
2014. Last Friday was a wonderful day to Remember, Celebrate, and
Believe. Thank you to Adam Carmona for his effort on the slideshow –
entertaining, heartwarming, and spectacular! Thank you to the 7th
graders and their families for the fantastic Baccalaureate Brunch served to
the 8th graders after Mass. Thank you to Katherine Samonte, Samantha
Zaraogoza, Sarah Cox and Stephen Sirmay who represented their class
with their thoughts on the graduation theme of “We Remember, We
Celebrate, We Believe”. And, special thanks to Carolyne Salvador, Class of
2005, for her words to the graduates and their parents. Each year, our
students leave our halls, and we say “goodbye” for a short period of time.
We know that they will come back to share their high school news and to
say hello again to their SEU buddies. It is a great blessing that all of their
teachers look forward to.
And, true to our tradition here, the graduating Knights achieved
scholarships and Honors at Entrance to their chosen high schools. The
record of their achievements and honors are enclosed with our Tues. Env.
this week. Please take the time to review it. I also heard some great news
about one of our alumni from the Class of 2009 who graduated from
Granada High School this past week. Taylor Chavez was the Class
Valedictorian and addressed the people in attendance at their ceremony.
A shout out to Taylor and all of our alumni high school and college
graduates who are positively changing our world. We are proud of all of
them!

This past week, the following parents were elected to the PTC Board for
the 2013-14 year: Christie Brough, Griselda Cox, Robyn Flores, Gina
Peterson, Jennifer Landolfi, Yesmin Wall, Jennifer Ancewicz and Vicki
Lagos. Our 2013-14 PTC President, Hazel Uytioco, is taking a year off
after being part of the board for the past 3 years. I thank her personally
and publicly for her willingness to serve and for her ongoing support of
our school. The Board has accomplished much under her leadership and
has met our fund-raising goals for the past 2 years. The PTC Board
positions for the 2014-15 year are:
President: Griselda Cox
Vice- President: Christie Brough
Secretary: Gina Peterson
Treasurer: Robyn Flores
Head Room Parent: Yesmin Wall
Communications: Jennifer Ancewicz
Parent Liaison: Vicki Lagos
Facilities: Jennifer Landolfi
Here are a few items that your support will fund for the upcoming year:
Lego Robotics Curriculum for Gr. 5-8 (and possibly Gr. 1-8), a support staff
member for math enrichment, and the scheduling of bi-monthly (or
monthly) science assemblies. This is in addition to the extra field trips,
Decathlon, e-books that are not covered by the family fees, and additional
Chromebooks. Over the summer, the bandwidth and infrastructure will
help us to reach 100% connectivity for all students when school resumes in
the fall. And, the student bathroom renovation is scheduled to begin in
late July. During the summer, we will also “migrate” to a new online
gradebook system (Schoolspeak) which will allow us to post updates and all
the school flyers more efficiently. And, it will be password protected so
that it can ensure student and family privacy better. Please continue to
check your emails and the school website. News and updates will be
communicated electronically this summer. Take full credit for raising in
excess of $85,000 to help our school. Thank you, thank you, and God bless
you!
This past week, many of you may have heard that one of our middle
school teachers (and Knights Alumna), Ms. O’Shea, is moving to
Chaminade Middle School to teach 7th and 8th grade language arts there
starting in the fall. She is very sad to leave St. Euphrasia and is making
the decision for personal financial reasons. All of us are saddened by this

news, and we wish her well and many blessings as she takes on this new
teaching challenge. I know that all of you, and especially the parents of
our incoming 6th graders and middle school grades are concerned about
this news. Please know that there have been qualified applicants who
have contacted me. St. Euphrasia is considered not only an excellent
school, but a wonderful school and parish community as well. And, the
teacher leadership that has been shown to our area schools these past two
years has fostered this reputation. It is my primary responsibility as
principal to ensure that all of our students have an excellent education and
are faithful Catholics. Final interviews are taking place this week, and I
hope to have news of the 2014-15 6th grade homeroom teacher by the end
of June. I will let parents know via a Schoolreach message. I thank you
for your patience and support.
Our summer school program is starting June 23. And, the Cultural
Bytes class will meet here in the afternoons. We are still accepting
applications. Each week has a different theme for fun and learning. If
you are still interested, please contact the office before the end of this
week. We will reopen for summer hours on Monday, June 16 from 9 a.m. –
noon daily. Have a blessed and restful summer. Please check the school
website regularly for updates. I look forward to seeing all of you again on
September 2, the first day of . Have a great summer and may Our Lord
bless you in all that you do!
