Civic Leadership Conference – March 5, 2015 – Olympia, WA
Overview:
The Civic Leadership Conference engages over 300 high school and college students from TRiO
programs statewide. Federal TRIO Programs, as defined by the Department of Education, are
Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for
low-income individuals, first generation college students, and individuals with disabilities. The
goal of these programs is to progress disadvantaged students through the academic pipeline from
middle school to post-secondary programs.
The Civic Leadership Conference educates students to become self aware of their voice and how
they can have an impact within their community. Through a variety of workshops and keynote
speakers, the Civic Leadership conference will strengthen student’s leadership styles, their voice,
and how to become an advocate for important issues that TRiO students face.
