RESEARCH IN THE DEPARTMENT
Announcements
 RU Interprofessional? IE is on its way!: On March 3rd, 2014, industrial
engineering students in IND300 (Intro to Management) engaged with
nursing students in NSE21 (Nursing Theory Concepts, Individual and
Family) on an interprofessional case for design in healthcare, inspired by
collaborators at the Centre for Innovation in Complex Care (thecicc.com).
IE students also got a chance to tour CICC facilities based in the Toronto
General Hospital and attend CICC operational rounds on March 25th to
learn about current projects, the hospital work environment and important
skills needed to succeed in improving healthcare through innovation. This
initiative is co-led by Michele Bristow, Instructor (MIE), and Charlotte Lee,
Professor (Nursing), in collaboration with Megan Omstead, Practicum
Coordinator (Nutrition), Dr. Howard Abrams, CICC Director, and Shoshana
Hahn-Goldberg, CICC Post-Doctoral Fellow. Research assistance is
provided by Aaron Bechtold, undergraduate (Nursing), who is generously
supported by the MIE Department. This experience will be used to
stimulate dialogue at a roundtable session called "Developing
Interprofessional Learning Activities and Assessments" at the University of
Waterloo Teaching and Learning Conference, Opportunities and New
Directions on May 1st, 2014. If you are interested in learning more, contact
Michele Bristow, michele.bristow@ryerson.ca.
