Spring
2015
History and Geography
The term will start with a study of
Ancient Egypt. In particular their
achievements and their place in
history. We will be visiting
Shrewsbury Museum and Art
Gallery to see the current
Egyptian exhibition and take part
in an Egyptian workshop.
Pupils will build on their
knowledge of continents,
countries, rivers and landmarks.
They will explore types of
settlements and land use e.g. the
importance of the Nile to the
Ancient Egyptians and the
distribution of food in today’s
world.
Homework
Multiplication tables, reading, Education City and spellings will continue as in the
autumn term.
Science
Linking with Ancient Egypt, children will learn about the similarities and
differences between human beings and be able to identify parts of the body,
both internally and externally.
They will explore the senses and learn about the effect of exercise on the human
body. Hygiene, healthy teeth, digestion and a healthy diet will be a part of their
topic work.
The movement of humans will be compared to that of animals and children will
learn about skeletons and the different structures of animals.
Spellings and Grammar
Comprehension activities and
reading different texts form an
integral part of many lessons.
All of this is monitored carefully
by teachers and support staff. In
addition, there is a quiet reading
time every day.
Each Monday the children will
be given spellings to learn. The
children will have a spelling test
using these words, in their own
sentence, on a Monday. This
helps the children with their
spelling, punctuation,
comprehension and
concentration.
Punctuation and grammar is
planned into written work and
short, daily grammar/
punctuation activities.

Children will explore the art work
of the Ancient Egyptians. They
